Soo today I did some organizing and re-arranging in my kitchen. I have a narrow cupboard next to the my stove that contains a slew of pots and pans. Up until today, they have been in there helter-skelter. I'm not proud of this cupboard. It's not something that I like to freely admit...sooo today I decided to do something about it. I took out said pots and pans and stacked them neatly on the floor. Then I went through them...muffin tin - set aside; flower cake pan - set aside; weird tray for my toaster oven (said tray - never been used since purchasing toaster oven) - set aside. I then climbed up on the chair and opened the two cupboards above my fridge. Actually - before opening those cupboards, I noticed a thick film of dust on my cherry containers located on top of the fridge.... The neat freak trapped inside of me came out with vengeance!!! Mrs. Meyers' Lavender All-Purpose Cleaner got brought out and mixed with the appropriate amounts of hot water. It was a scrub-fest. The top of my fridge had not been wiped off since...well, I think November. 'Tis sad but true.
I wiped off the three cherry containers and then scrubbed at the surface of my fridge. It's not sparkly clean and there are no traces of dust up there. The pans that were set aside were placed on one side of the spare cupboards above the fridge. (The other side has the innards of my crockpot.)
One of the cherry containers on top of my fridge is a bread box. Since I don't eat normal bread, I have always used this as a catch-all box. Previously it was on my kitchen counter and I would throw random things in there, such as (but not limited to): full checkbook registers, extra sticky notes, photos, knick-knacks, etc. While sorting through this box, I found a couple old pictures of myself. Two of the pictures, I am with my friend Shelley when she came to Rockford to visit several years ago. We have both changed drastically -- she has lost alot (over 100 pounds) and I have lost weight. It's good for me to see old pictures and be reminded... "It's motivation," said Ruthie the other night. And it's true...it is. What else was in that container? Oh some old receipts from Target and Woodmans. The Woodmans receipt reminded me that groceries were alot cheaper even 2 years ago...just 24 months ago!!! But alas, inflation and all that other nonsense happens.
I know that it was just one cupboard....but I feel so much more at peace having those pots and pans sorted through. And maybe at some other time in my life, I will go back to baking and such...but for now, they can safely be tucked above my fridge where no harm may befall them.
