Curb & Butter

Concrete that is poured along the curb and has that cool "lip" is called Curb and Gutter.  I apparently thought it should read "Curb and Butter."  Unfortunately for this engineering secretary, butter is a real world and since spell-check doesn't have a clue that butter is not gutter, it did not catch the error of my ways.  Do you see the story unfolding?

Oh yes, friends.  I sent out a document - a legal document - with a heading to a particular section as, Curb and Butter.  This error was only caught by one individual.  ONE!  It surprised me as the document was viewed by atleast 20 sets of eyes -- and some of those eyes wear corrective eyewear (4 eyes)-- thus making the total number eyes...potentially 80!

Fast forward to today -- (as the initial Curb & Butter conundrum happened about 12 months ago) -- I printed C & B document as a spec for an engineer.  Thankfully said engineer has a great sense of humor and was delighted to read "Curb and Butter."  She pointed it out...and said, "Although this is hysterical, I really don't want this section in my specs."  I assured her that the BUTTER would be removed.

While sharing this story with Misty, I had a fabulous notion.....if the Contractor really did read the section as typed...can you imagine how funny it would've been if he would've said outloud, "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER???

This is what happens when you give me coffee with REAL creamer and a 3-day weekend...  I digress.  I laugh outloud about "Curb and Butter"!!!  It's my tragic flaw.  But you do have to admit that it is kind-of funny....right?

Happy Thursday!
