from tonight's Bible Study...

The title:  Dig Another Well
Genesis 26:17-25 ~ Isaac digs three wells

Christians must learn to stand alone without acting stubborn and fighting for our rights. Instead we must evaluate whether God's rights are being violated.  If God's rights are being violated, STAND!  When personal rights are being violated, then GO DIG ANOTHER WELL!

The greatest right a Christian has is the right NOT to demand his rights.  Emphasize rights and create rebellion.  Emphasize responsibilities and you'll have a revival.

Always give in all you can without giving up the clearly revealed will of God.  Others needs are more important than our own.

I love the reminder that this message for my heart and life.  The very first time I ever heard a message like this (and it was with this exact title) was in college.  I remember Pastor Schettler went through a whole list of offenses and after every single offense, he said, "What are you to do?"  And the whole entire Dale Horton Auditorium (I think it seated something like 3,500 students) replied, "DIG ANOTHER WELL!"  It was such an amazing truth...and one that I need reminded of on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

I was thinking about the back-breaking work of digging these wells.  And Pastor Davis mentioned the dangerous way in which they probably had to work.  OSHA wasn't around back then.  They didn't have supports to put down in the wells to keep the walls from caving in...yet they dug as they were commanded.

I, also, thought about how in the life of Isaac (changing gears on you) -- he learned as a young man to surrender his personal rights when his father took him up on the mountain to sacrifice him....which lead him to trust God and his servant to choose his wife.

It's an amazing truth!  I think tomorrow I am going to write that little phrase "DIG ANOTHER WELL" on a sticky note and place it somewhere in my workspace.  Maybe someone will see it and ask me while I am going to dig ANOTHER well....and I will have the opportunity to share with them.  How exciting!

Have a fabulous day....and do remember to DIG ANOTHER WELL!!!!!!  Happy digging!!!!!!
