"R" is for your right eye....

This morning, the 12 year old (and literally, he wasn't 12 years old...but he was very young) handed me my two boxes of contact lenses.  As he placed them on the counter, side-by-side, he said rather condescendingly, "Now...the 'R' on the box is for your right eye."  (He dramatically pointed to the RED dot sticker with a HUGE "R"!)  He continues..."And the unmarked box -"

I interrupted him and replied equally condescending but somewhat sweet, "Wait - I've got this!  The unmarked box is for my LEFT eye, right?"
He very humbly replied, "Yes!" 

And I picked up my boxes and left the eye doctor and drove directly to Meg's Daily Grind and purchased a medium Soy Autumn Latte and laughed about the whole experience.

Could he not have looked at me and saw...
A. I was not born yesterday.
B. The wheels were spinning and I am alert.
C. I appeared to have it (whatever it really is) altogether.

I shared this story with our department supervisor, who could not resist pointing out that every single "R" meant right, right?  I'm glad I brightened his day.  And really, truth-be-told, this did brighten my day.  It also made me very mindful about the tone I use with others.
