Vacation Day #1

Today was my two year anniversary at my place of employment...and what better way to celebrate a work anniversary than by taking a vacation day off!!!!!!  Seriously -- saving up my vacation days and then being "forced" to use them.  I love it!  I'm totally a vacation-day-taking martyr!  I mean really, FORCE ME TO TAKE TIME OFF!!!!  (Back of my hand placed dramatically on my forehead, sigh on my lips...)

Ummm...actually that wasn't the case!!!  It was more like turning cartwheels down an extended hallway!!!!

I love having weekdays off!!!  Especially when it's two weekdays back-to-back...Thursday & Friday!

Today I woke-up to the scent of coffee wafting through the cottage.  It was calling me to arise from my slumber and come enjoy some frothy goodness.  And enjoy it, I sure did!!!  I like to talk to the Lord first thing in the morning as I sip my coffee.  When my day begins with my focus on Him, it helps me throughout the day to keep my eyes, ears, and heart atuned to what He has for me...  Praying and giving all my cares to Him and listening for His leading in my life are all ways that I can draw closer to Him...and let's be honest, we (I) need that.  I need that desperately!!!!

After the first cup was consumed, I set about cleaning the cottage.  I'm a multi-tasking sort-of gal...so after throwing a load of laundry in the washer, I removed everything from my kitchen and bathroom and set about sweeping and mopping.  Once the floors were dry, I placed everything back and swapped out the laundry.  Four-and-a-half loads of laundry later (I had to wash towels, sheets, and clothes...lest you think that I don't ever do laundry.  I do!)...I was ready to walk out the door and meet Leah for coffee.  I had my laundry basket (full of wet towels and sheets) on my left hip, purse and knitting bag in my right hand...I managed to get the door pulled shut before something fell to the ground.  Approximately 10 steps down the sidewalk, I looked off the left and saw ominous clouds and thought to myself, Tut-tut, looks like rain.  I then nervous laughed because who really talks to themselves using Pooh-ish vocabulary?  Apparently the girl with curly hair...sooooo it was another balancing act to get the door re-opened and the basket put back inside.  No worries -- all went well.  Door shut and locked for the second time -- and I was off to meet Leah.  [Are you wondering why on earth I was carrying a laundry basket outside?  I was planning on taking my sheets and towels to my friend Nancy's house and hang them on her clothesline.  You can see several posts from March that explain my love of line-dried sheets and towels.  Line-dried sheets...(pitter-patter)...there are no words for how wonderful outdoorsy-smelling sheets are to the girl with curly hair.  I believe I love line-dried sheets as much as I love coffee and knitting!]

Where was I?  Oh yes...meeting Leah...

One soy pumpkin spice latte with the half the flavoring and some much needed chit-chat later...we headed to the Yarn Sellar on East Riverside Blvd.  Ummmmm 2 words --- CUTE STORE!!!!!!!  We "oohed" and "aahed" over the bright colors, textures, patterns, ribbon-ish yarn, etc.  What a delightful little store.  We found some clearance yarn to make scarves for gifts.  (I heart knitting for others.)

After yarn shopping, we headed to a thrift.  What fun vacation day is complete without a trip to the thrift, right?  OF COURSE!  Hellooooo!

We thrifted for a bit. I was sadly disappointed that said thrift has ceased from organizing the clothing by size.  What a bummer.  But alas -- it was still a fun thrift outing with a fabulous friend.  I did purchase a corduroy jacket for fall.  I believe the direct quote was, "This brown jacket is going to look great with a cute scarf that I am going to need to make!"  I purchased one item!  When I was re-telling the story of our thrifting adventure to Rhonda, she said, "Are you feeling well?  I cannot believe you only bought one thing!"  I know!  But alas, I didn't love the other items...and I don't want to be the girl that has a closet full of clothes she just so-so likes.  I now consider each piece of clothing...is it a need?  Do I love it?  If the answer is no or maybe, back on the racks it goes.

Thrifting ended.  I came back to the cottage and worked on my top secret Christmas knitting project.  It's turning out soo soft and -- CONFESSION:  I really love it.  :)  I hope the person who is going to receive it loves it too.

My day ended with a trip to the gym.  I met up with Rhonda and it was soo nice to work-out with her.  When we began our elliptical work-out, I said, "You are going to make me do an hour on this thing, aren't you?"  She did.  A whole hour...but we talked the entire time so it flew by.  We covered a myriad of topics.  It was nice having her there to chit-chat with.  I'm kind of social work-out kind of gal.  I like having someone there to talk too.  It really does make it go by faster...plus we haven't worked-out at the same time for about a month.  Alot can happen in a month.  :)

Sooo here it is 9:09 p.m.  Vacation Day #1 -- a wonderful, relaxing day.  Vacation Day #2 -- a trip to the apple orchard with my dearest friend and her positively delightful two children!  I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in-store for tomorrow.

Thank you, Lord, for vacation days.
Thank you for autumn and the brightly colored leaves!

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
