"God is refining me, because He loves me.  He pulls the ugly splinters of sin out of my flesh, even though it hurts, because He knows it is for the best.  And then He kisses me, puts salve on my wound, and reaffirms His love for me.  It amazes me, but just as He was on a quest for Jacob's love, He is on a quest for my love.  Even when I resist Him, even when I break His heart, He keeps loving me.  Because this kind of unfailing love is so rare in the world, we have trouble believing it.  When we know we have done wrong, we expect Him to walk away, and instead, He continues to pursue us."  (pages 134, 135)
