Eric loaded the children in the van and they headed out for a reptile park? Eric told me the proper scientific name...which was new to me...and then he told me what all they would be seeing. My immediate thoughts, Praise the Lord that Ging and I are going to Pike's Market!!! I'm just being honest. Not that I don't love all things reptile when they are caged...securely caged...
We headed downtown Seattle to take in the Pike's Market! I had never even heard of such a place...well, that's not true. I did recall that Starbuck's has a bean blend called "Pike's Place"...and now I know where they got the name. Infact, Ging had that blend of coffee at the house and upon further perusal (when we returned that evening), I did discover that there is a picture of the Market on the bag o'beans. Interesting...
At the Market, we saw...
- beautiful flower arrangements (and reasonably priced...$10!)
- handmade purses
- handmade jewelry which was amazing!
- funky clothing -- including hats
- pottery
- purses
- fresh fish (which they really do toss about)
- the list goes on and on...think: really cool, trendy, crafty, hand-made items!
We stopped in to a neat tea and coffee shop. They had free samples of their orange spice tea. I must confess, the temperature in Seattle (because it's lacking humidity) was chilly. You know when it's chilly and you are chilled to the bone? That's the chill in Seattle. Soo we warmed up with a sample of tea. I ended up buying some huckleberry tea and let me just say -- it is deeeeeelicious!
We met many creative types while wandering through the Market. One interesting individual was the owner of new/used bookstore. He sang old show tunes. He had a very deep voice. It was soothing and it drew you in and was mesmerizing. We spent quite a bit of time in the bookstore.
After making our way through the upper level (oh, yes friends, there are a couple levels to the Market), we went to the first Starbucks on Pike Street.
After the Market and Starbuck's, we scampered across town to the Seattle Aquarium where I fell smitten with the cutest river otter!!! I contemplated bringing him home with me...however he would exceed all baggage weight limits.
And a cute octopus...
Here are some random pictures from Saturday...
Yoda...love that guy!
These statues are all around Seattle. We aren't sure why....perhaps on my next trip out there, I can figure out their purpose.
