...when it's not really funny.
...when I am tired.
...when I am supposed to be quiet.
...about something that happened a day or two ago.
There is an adorable children's book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. It's super cute. This mouse asks for a cookie and then wants a cup of milk and then thinks of something else he wants to go with the milk, so on and so forth. [I always thought it was cool when authors I love use "So on and so forth." It sounds like they are well-educated and have deep thoughts.]
Here's how my day went...
8:10 a.m. - mouse seen in our dept.
8:30 a.m. - mouse dude, who is one of our college kids, comes to our department to empty the mousetraps. The mouse from 8:10 took refuge in the closet. When we directed the mousekateer to the closet, he said, "No one told me there was a trap in here." The poor guy -- When he opened the closet door, he was close to crying when he sees all the mice droppings around the glue trap. I believe the only utterance he made was a repeated, "No, no, no..." I had to walk away because the laughter was bubbling up inside me...and it wasn't funny to laugh. The kid was scared...as he should've been. There were A LOT of droppings!!!
8:40 a.m. - My co-worker finds me and tells me "the rest of the story." Apparently, the mouse dude's flailing and hysteria went from a smidge to full-blown rodent crisis!!! My co-worker and I determined that he reminded us of a flamboyant Sanjaya (bad singer on AI circa 2007). I've only seen a handful of AI episodes. Reality t.v. is terrible and should be banned. FOR REAL. Banned. Sanjaya was on that show where people cast votes over the phone and/or internet. He was a horrible singer but the American public voted to keep him on the show for too long... It was the talk of the town. It was bad singing. It hurt my ears.
8:45 a.m. - remembering 2007 and the Sanjaya-debacle, I then remembered Cloris Leachman on Dancing with the Stars. Again another show that I no longer watch but at the time, I watched portions of that season and my co-worker Lauren and I would discuss who danced well. Cloris did not dance well. It hurt us that she was voted and kept on the show for too long. It was a season of REALLY BAD reality t.v. -- which as previously stated, reality t.v. is already bad in and of itself.
10:45 a.m. - I've stopped laughing about mouse dude...oh, wait, NOPE...
1:05 p.m. - I finally made it to lunch. It seemed like everytime I tried to sneak away to get nourishment, one or both of the copier/scanner/printers would get seriously jammed. Since I was completely out of 260 page spec books for the pumping station, I thought it best if I stayed until I had one book put together. Good idea: Be nice and don't leave the others empty-handed. Bad idea: low blood sugar which triggered more laughter.
2:45 p.m. - another mouse sighting; it scurried in to the cubicle next to mine
4:30 p.m. - leave work...oh, I am still laughing.
Tomorrow my prayer is for no mice. Or at the very least, Please no mouse sightings. If they want to remain hidden and out of sight...I am even fine with that. :)
