At a garage sale, I picked up a copy of the book I Can't Believe I am Knitting! It was $1. I placed it on my bookshelf and haven't given it much thought until tonight when I wanted to knit before Bible study and my binder o'patterns is at work...in the cupboard above my computer. I left the binder and some knitting supplies at work because it seemed foolish to haul my knitting bag home each night only to turn around and haul back in to work the next day.
Tonight I skimmed through the book and found a striped dishcloth pattern. I figured it can't be that complicated because it followed the introduction and the title (in bold) above the pattern reads: CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE NOT A FULL-FLEDGED KNITTER, READY TO BEGIN AN ACTUAL PROJECT! Who in their right mind would put a difficult dishcloth pattern below that headline???
The pattern is actually quite simple. 10 rows - 5 of which you repeat.
Materials:
100% Cotton worsted weight yarn
Straight knitting needles, size 7
With the pink, cast on 44 stitches.
Rows 1-4: Knit across. At the end of Row 4, do NOT cut the pink yarn.
Row 5: With variegated yarn Knit 1 [YO, K2tog] repeat bracket to the end, with the last stitch Knit.
Row 6: Knit across. Do not cut yarn at the end.
Rows 7-10: With the pink yarn knit across; at the end of Row 10, do NOT cut the pink yarn.
Repeat Rows 5-10, 10 times
Knit 4 rows with pink yarn.
Bind off.
I was trying to figure out a way to keep track of how many times I had repeated Rows 5-10 and then I had a knitting epiphany....DUH!!!! I will be able to tell because Rows 5 & 6 are knitted with the variegated yarn.
