True statement. I've not blogged since Tuesday night...which was 3 nights ago. (I did the whole Friday night to Thursday night = 1; Thursday night to Wednesday night = 2 days; Wednesday night to Tuesday night = 3 days.)
Wednesday...what happened on Wednesday? Oh, yes, I remember. Wednesday did not feel like Wednesday - probably because Tuesday's sewing class was cancelled. AND I ALMOST DIED ON MY COMMUTE IN TO WORK!!!! Scariest commute to date. I decided, against my better-winterish judgement to take Springfield to Bypass 20. (I don't drive the bypass in the winter.) At Montague, I merged off the entrance ramp onto the Bypass. I accelerated to the 65 mph speed limit only to begin HEARING Rosie driving over ice. A quick glance at the bypass and what did I see??? Nothing but a sheet of ice. Ice covering - COV-ERRRR-ING my lane and the lane next to mine. The road curves twice over bridges. I'm pretty sure my heart skipped a beat (and by "a beat" - I do mean a gazillion IN A ROW beats!!!!!). "Lord, this is why I don't drive on the bypass. This is why I don't drive on the bypass..." When I was a child, we had one of those Fischer Price plastic record players. I remember owning a Sesame Street record and one particular song would skip. The line would play over and over and over and over again. This moment - and my statement "This is why I don't drive on the bypass" was like that record. Skipping. I was skipping. Not the pleasant skipping that I do at circa 4:30 p.m. each day when I exit my place of employment. Nooooo - this skipping was a prayer and quite distressful.
I couldn't hit the brakes because I knew I would slip and slide and possibly wind up carreening down the embankment to my death. The only thing I knew to do was press the cruise control button and turn that nonsense off and continue in my prayerlike/turret-like state.
Right before the North Main exit, the ice disappeared and I was safely able to exit the road. Halfway down the exit ramp - my heart rate returned to normal.
Wednesday night had nursery duty. I've discovered something wonderful. It's ok if I have a personal policy and implementing said policy is going to become my new for 2013 thing. Here's my 1st ever personal policy....(ahem) It is my personal policy to not care for children that have had a fever within the past 24 hours. I was thinking it might be fun to reverse the roles and see how you would feel. Let's pretend I had a 100 degree temperature less than 12 hours ago. I show up at your doorstep with a slightly runny nose and a declaration that I was soo bored sitting at home that I just had to come over. Me, myself, and my germs. Oh, but let's not sit at opposite ends of the room. Let me come and sit right next to you. Oh, and I can't find the Kleenex so let me use your shirt sleeve. Oh - and pardon me while I cough. In your face. (Sigh.) I will then declare, even though I've not studied pre-med and/or been to medical school, per Web MD - I'm just suffering from something minor...don't mind the fever that I've had off-and-on for 3 days.
Thursday evening I attempted a new-ish cardio routine. I elliptical-ed but I did bursts of 1 minute intense, 2 minutes regular, 1 minute intense, so on & so forth, for 30 minutes. During the 5 minute cooldown, I wanted to lie on the floor and have the other gym members spray me with chilled water.
Friday night - DINNER WITH THE GIRLS!!!! I sooo needed this... We laughed. We ranted. We laughed. We shared our hearts. I love these friends dearly. I wish we could get together more often.
