When I was in high school, my Mom listened and learned valuable information from two homeopathic doctors. These women believed several things back then that are just now catching on now...
1. Microwaving your food in plastic causes the chemicals in the plastic to leech into the food. Science and medical professionals believe this to be true...it just took them a little longer to believe it.
2. Parabens flow freely in our bloodstream when we apply lotions/cosmetics that contain these evil fake estrogen toxic monsters. Once in your bloodstream, your body believes it's estrogen, thus throwing off your hormonal balance. [Any chemical ending with the suffix -paraben. It's sometimes Methylparaben and other variations.]
My mom had told me those chemicals were bad back when I was in college but I never truly believed her until I was sitting at work one day reading an online health article that talked about the dangers of poly-cystic ovaries being linked to parabens. And then the article went on to state that parabens were found at the core of many (MANY!) breast cancer and other cancerous tumors.
I remember driving home from work and literally, throwing away any and all lotions that I owned that contained those chemicals. I, then, began reading labels. And you once I stopped putting parabens on my skin, my other internal health issues went away.
I now share this information with you. Please, please...read your labels. Do your daughters, your nieces, and your friends a favor. RESEARCH PARABENS!!! Google all lotion ingredients and if there's any type of dangerous information regarding the chemical, do not put it on your body. Your skin absorbs these things into your bloodstream.
What, if the whole world, took time to read labels and we stopped buying products with bad chemicals? It would force places like Bath and Body Works to make something that was better for our bodies. It may save lives!!!
Be careful with what you put on your skin...and on your lips. I've recently been feeling gluten-ish reactionary and I could not, for the life of me, figure out what I was ingesting. Well, well, well....after a food journal and a look into what I was putting on skin, I found a questionable chemical in my Mary Kay Nourishine Lip Gloss. A call to MK's 800-number and I found out a chemical in my lip gloss was harvested from WHEAT GERM...and wouldn't you know, when I took a sip of water or coffee or licked my lips, into my body went gluten. Sadly, I will be adding my favorite lip gloss to my list of no-no's.... I'll be adding it because besides feeling bad, I don't want to increase my chances for stomach and intestinal cancer just so I can have fabulous super-sparkly lips.
This is kind of like a soap box rant. It just makes me sad that some people think and hope the government has their best interests at heart and that we should be able to trust the Food and Drug Administration. We can't. Look at government collectively. Would you trust their every word? Why have we bought in to this whole notion that if the FDA approves it, then it must be safe? They could care less and they are careless.
I made a vow in 2005 and I still am holding to it today, nearly 8 years later... I, Angela Dawn Good, will not bury my curly-haired head in the sand. I will become informed and aware of what I am putting into and on my body. I will read labels. I will take time in the grocery store to make sure what I am purchasing is safe. When I learn new information, I will share it with my friends. I will not keep these natural remedies and other bits o'info to myself.
