This is a serger. Tonight I used it on the seams of my third sewing project: a knit top.
I learned a very valuable sewing lesson tonight. ALWAYS try-on the top before attaching the sleeves.
After attaching the sleeves, I put on my raspberry top only to discover I had room to expand....and by "expand" - I do mean gain 25-30 pounds.
My witty sewing teacher inquired of the size I cut out only to reply, "Goodness!!! Why would you cut out that size?" I thought I was reading my measurements right...obviously I was wrong.
Sigh.
We have a make-up sewing class on Thursday. My homework is to remove both sleeves. My teacher believes we can take in the body and do something about the sleeves. After we fix the issue, I intend to cut my pattern down to size.
I must confess....I love sewing this top. Aside from the size-issue, the shoulders and sleeves made perfect sense. I actually understood the pattern instructions. I would love to save up and get a serger. I think that machine would be a huge help...but first things first -- LET'S RIP OUT SOME SLEEVES AND REMOVE THOSE SHOULDERS!!!!
