Vacation Day #3: I heart slacking.

Monday, April 29th
Whenever I take a vacation and go out of town, I like to buy a keepsake to remember my trip.  A picture frame, a coffee mug, etc.  Yesterday I bought a cutting mat.  Yes, a cutting mat will be my keepsake of this vacation.  I've never owned a cutting mat before - probably because I've never owned one of those handled cutting devices.  Here's why I needed the cutting mat - during the first sewing class in January, my instructor said to buy a round wheeled contraption.  In my head, I thought she meant a handled cutting device so that is what I purchased.  It's not what she meant.  She meant a thing-a-ma-jig you use with tracing paper to mark darts.  Once I realized that I had bought the wrong thing, wouldn't you know - I could not find my receipt.  And of course, I couldn't find the receipt -- I could find every-other-receipt but not the one I needed.  (Sigh.)  Since the cutting device was 50% off, I decided to just keep it and use it for some other crafting project...and then I realized, I would need a cutting mat.  [Have you priced those things???  Reeeeee-dic-you-lus or just ridiculous if you prefer proper spelling to my fabulous phonics!]  When I saw that the mats were not on sale this week, I used my 50% JoAnn's coupon and purchased said mat.

Sunday afternoon, I ran to the thrift by the 50 cent toll bridge (which I can no longer refer to this as such because they removed the toll booth and all the change capturing funnel-ish things...from now on, I shall refer to it as where-the-fifty-cent-toll-bridge-used-to-be) and bought 3 t-shirts.  One of the t-shirts was from a jersey knit, I believe.  Jersey knit doesn't work for the scarves.  I found that out the hard way.  (Sigh.)  You must use cheap t-shirts.  I'm not sure the official name of the knit -- but I intend to ask the nice gals at JoAnn Fabrics.

Where was I????  Oh yes - my slacking Monday.  Soooo I watched a YouTube video and then made 2 cute scarves.  The first scarf was made out of a striped t-shirt.  The stripes reminded me of sherbet.  Yum!!!!  Sherbet orange, light raspberry and light lavender (the lavender does not remind me of sherbet...it reminded me of some bad tasting lavender ice cream I tried one time...only one time.  Never again.  Kind of like that rose ice cream Nancy talked me in to trying.  <<>>).  The scarf turned out lovely.  Too cover the one seam which connects all the cut strips, I used extra pieces of t-shirt and tied them in knots.  It looks like 2 octopus smushed together in a fun, summery way.  Don't worry - I wouldn't wear something that looked like creepy octopus!!!  That would not be Fun Angie-ish.

I, also, went to the gym with Lauren.  We were able to go at 1:30.  It was wonderful going in the middle of the day.  The place wasn't crowded.  The machines were free.  And we laughed and chatted and laughed some more.

Another thing I noticed about not working on Monday -- Woodman's was not busy either.  As I pulled in to the parking lot, I thought, I could really love this whole not working thing.  And then I remembered that I have a car payment, rent to pay, utilities to keep working, groceries to buy, etc.  (Sigh.)  So much for the life of a slacker....  It was just a dream...just for a moment.

I did witness something scary on my 3rd day off.  Sooooo my neighbors had family visiting for the day.  While three of the five adults were outside "supervising" the children, one of the 2-year olds pushed a musical toy all the way down the driveway to Halsted.  Literally -- TO THE ROAD!!!!  When the mom discovered it, she screamed and ran down the driveway and proceeded to reprimand her child...WHO IS 2!!!  Reprimanding your 2-year old for your lack of parenting is terrible parenting.  She asked the little guy, "Why did you go down there?  It's dangerous."  Again -- he's 2.  He walked down there because no one hollered stop or told him, "No!"  I'm thankful the Lord intervened and spared this little guy's life.

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
