I have to bring a treat to work for my birthday. My birthday falls the day before another co-worker's birthday. The May 12th b-day girl loves, loves, LOVES chocolate sooooo our bakerish co-worker is making some kind of chocolate tunnel cake. All I remember about this chocolate cake is...it's going to be from scratch and it's going to have a gazillion kinds of chocolate mixed in. A gazillion is a lie. I think it's going to have 4 types of chocolate. A small part of me wishes it would be gluten-free but the gym-loving-freakazoid is thankful that it's not. I know myself. I know how much I love chocolate. It's scary. Quite scary. It seems on and/or around my birthday, I throw all caution to the wind and indulge in my favorites...someone says, "Hey, birthday girl! Wanna get Red Mango?" I'm all like "SURE!!! LET'S GO EVERY NIGHT AFTERALL IT IS MY BIRTHWEEK!!!" Or "how about Meg's today? I will treat!" And I'm thinking, "Calories - schmalories. It's my birthweek!" Yeah...I go a little overboard with my birthday/birthweek/birthmonth!!!
Any-who....we are celebrating both birthdays on Thursday since I am taking Friday, May 9th off and the May 12th b-day girl is taking Monday, May 13th off.
Last year the bakerish co-worker, who also happens to be the funny-not-quite-right co-worker, made both May 12th b-day girl and myself wear funny "Birthday Girl" buttons. Like the one I wore when I was in the 1st grade...2nd grade tops.
I must confess, I do love that my co-workers make a big production out of my birthday. That probably sounds ridiculous as I am a grown-up. But I really do like my co-workers. We are a fun bunch! We spend 40 hours together. Scary. I know. I love birthdays because you are celebrating a person...not an accomplishment (i.e. a promotion). You are saying to this person, "I'm thankful for YOU!!! Let's celebrate with your favorite things!"
Sooo with all this chocolate and gluten, I was thinking that I should make something yummy that I can have. What's a girl to make???? FRUIT SKEWERS!!!!! Oh, yes, friends. I'm going to get strawberries and grapes and probably pineapple. I did see on Pinterest some cute skewers with strawberries, kiwi and assorted grapes. Not sure. I think the fruit will be a game-time-decision. Pretty much - what ever looks good at Woodman's. :)
I was going to make a big production with the fruit skewers but now that I think about the tunnel of chocolate taking center stage, I might just make a handful of skewers and snooze-you-lose! Hmmmm....
