Our Saturday adventures began bright and early with Trader Joe's Smooth & Mellow coffee brewed at the mancave. After breakfast, we started out...
Have you ever thought you knew where you were supposed to turn....only to discover that you were wrong??? Well....it happened to your truly. I volunteered to drive us into the Motor City and the cut-through road was not where I remembered it being.....thankfully, we had plenty of time to get lost. We weren't really "lost"......we were meandering in the right direction...just not on the right road. (Sigh.)
We got to where we needed to be....Ann Arbor. More specifically --> Whole Foods were we partook of nourishment. Their salad bar is amazing!!! We both loaded up our bowls with greens and raw veggies. Once our salads were to our liking, we meandered over to the gluten-free tarts. I asked the birthday boy which one he wanted and I knew full-well that he would pick the coconut cream one. (Bleh. Coconut.) I opted for the lemon one because the lemon zest hides the coconut oil taste. Lemon = good. Coconut = bad.
Salads and tarts purchased. We then made our way to the patio and enjoyed the 70ish weather. We watched cute sparrows nabs scraps and leftovers which had fallen by the wayside. God provides for us and them. I read a quote somewhere ~ God feeds the sparrows; He doesn't throw their food in their nest.
Lunch consumed. Our next stop - per the birthday boy - COFFEE!!!!!!
We stopped at a cutesy coffeeshop and inquired about their ingredients. Not wanting to risk getting sick while at the game and today (my day of traveling back to Rockford), we didn't order and bid the coffee baristas a fine day.
The GPS showed us a Caribou Coffee just 4 minutes awsy. We were off!!!
Two iced mochas - Bry's blended and mine iced - we sat for a bit chit-chatting.
We decided to head to Comerica Park earlier rather than later as there was also a country music concert next to the baseball diamond.
Parking was easy-peasy. We pretty much got as close as we could and since we were early, the 6th floor was open.
Once parked, we determined that we had 3.5 hours to mill-around the city. Our first matter of business was finding someplace to buy bottled water.
We walked and walked and walked....
Finally it was time to stand in line to wait and wait. It was kind of warm with the sun beating down on us. We laughed and gabbed and the time flew by.
Once inside the stadium, we went to the foodcourt area and purchased water. Guess how much they charged us? Go on - guess. If you said $4.50, you are right. Not even kidding. And they could sooo charge that because they have a "no outside anything" inside the stadium rule.
Bryan and I both purchased two bottles. We had walked more than 3 miles around the city and we were parched. Bryan kept saying, "Sis, we gave them $18 for $4 worth of water." It was criminal. How do they sleep at night? Probably with Melatonin.
The game was amazing!!!! The characters around us......well, the two guys next to me were wanna-be gangstas. The couple behind us was on (what I assume to be) their second or third date. The girl complained the guy was drinking beer. The guy complained that she talked nasally. At one point, he told her (and I quote), "You need to stop talking through your nose. You need to talk like Oprah. Her voice is deep and sexy." I almost choked on my $4.50 bottle of water. What a way to perish....choking on over-priced water.
The game was tied until the bottom of the 9th inning - Miguel was up to bat and he knocked the ball out of the stadium. The video guy standing on the right field line had to move his leg out of the way. During the many replays, Bryan would laugh and laugh at the camera guy nearly getting hit. I suppose it's all in the line of duty.
The game ended at 11 p.m. and then we were treated to a fabulous fireworks display.
What a fun Saturday!!!
