It sounded like a good idea.

Sooo the Yoda hat ended up a bit slouchy on me.  Did I tell you that I was knitting a Yoda hat...complete with Yoda-ish ears?  Well, I was...er. am.  Am knitting it because I had knitted the hat and like I said, it was slouchy on me - never mind the fact that it's for a tween-aged boy who has a head "not the shape of Charlie Brown...think Dagwood."  What I was really hoping was for an actual measurement.

The hat was knitted flat which made for "easier" knitting - that's code for "I wasn't stressed out."  I stitched up the seam.  Perfection.  Does that sound conceited?  I hope not.

Since it was slouchy on me, I decided I should take it in 2 or so inches.  What better way to take it in than with my serger.  And here's where my sorrow begins...

Valuable lesson learned:  CONSULT THE INTERNET BEFORE SERGING ANY KNITTED ITEM...TO DETERMINE THE SERGE-ABILITY OF THE PARTICULAR TYPE OF YARN.

I did not do this.  In my head, serging this made sense.

Serging the hat was NOT in fact a good idea.  The acrylic yarn did not handle being serged.  The hat was ruined.  I nearly cried.  I didn't because I had coffee.  I drowned my sorrows in two mug-fulls.  Not even kidding.

It has been 8 hours since my cute green hat met its dreadful fate....  I have casted on 20 less stitches.  My ribbing is completed.  And now I am contemplating the amount of yarn I will need to finish the second hat.  Do I have enough?  Hmmmmmmm...

I will post a picture of the finished hat.
