In my teens and even 20’s,
I really didn’t pay too much attention to the words of the hymns sung at
church. I went through the motions of
opening the hymnbook and finding the page and singing the lyrics. The meaning behind them really didn’t filter
through my gray matter…and then I turned 30.
I’m not exactly sure what happened – aside from a fabulous surprise party at
my friend Trudy’s…something changed. I’m
pretty sure an evangelist challenged me to listen and ponder the lyrics that I
was singing to the King of Kings.
I’m so thankful for
faithful men who trust God and preach His Word.
Although the truth of “Contemplate the hymn lyrics” isn’t written as a Biblical directive…we are too keep our mind / thoughts / hearts focused on Christ.
Last Sunday, we sang the
hymn “Dwelling in Beulah
Land” and the fourth
verse really struck a place deep within my heart. The lyrics are…
Viewing here the works of God, I sink
in contemplation,
Hearing now His blessed voice, I see the way is planned;
Dwelling in the spirit, here I learn of full salvation,
Gladly will I tarry in Beulah Land.
Hearing now His blessed voice, I see the way is planned;
Dwelling in the spirit, here I learn of full salvation,
Gladly will I tarry in Beulah Land.
