Superhero movies

Several months ago, my friends found out that I had never watched a Marvel superhero movie.  They were shocked and then appalled that I, Angie Good, a Ninja Turtle & Transformer lovin’ gal had never watched Captain America or Iron Man.  Once they processed their shock, they determined this was unacceptable.  Their new mission in life was to introduce me to their beloved superheroes.

We selected a date which just so happened to work out amongst 4 schedules…they called it “Fate.”  My destiny was sealed.

Due to the fact that there are 9 Marvel movies (one is the theater which makes 10 and a 3rd Captain America in the works but not yet out making the total 11ish), we decided a sleepover was in order.

There’s something about the mentioning of a sleepover that makes my inner 7th grade girlie-girl super excited.  Jammies and junk food and movies with hunky superheroes with dear friends.  What more could a girl want???  Pizza.  Gluten-free pizza.  More on the pizza later…

Friday, May 15th – we (Leah, Uhura, and myself) assembled at Rhonda’s at circa 6 p.m.

Homemade pizza attempt #1 was an utter fail…due to the fact that the maker (yours truly) was just sooo super excited about the sleepover and superheroes that instead of adding 2 cups of hot water, the maker only added 1 cup…which made the garbanzo bean flour resemble cornmeal.  Bad cornmeal.  After 20 minutes of watching and stating “This does not look right!” was it determined that said pizza crust was not working…  Thankfully, yours truly, brought extra flour and oil.

Pizza attempt #2 was a success.  Funny how adding 2 cups of hot water (which is the correct amount) makes the crust turn out fabulous!  *Sigh*

We began our superhero moving-watching at circa 8 p.m. with the 1st Captain America.  I’m not going to lie and say I did not doze…but I did…until Captain America transformed from that awkward body (which is a computer generation – his head on a 12-year old body) to the hunky superhero we all know and love.  *Whimsical sigh*

Our 2nd and 3rd movies went well…

We took a 12:40 a.m. selfie…I’m pretty sure it was to commemorate that I had indeed stayed awake (give – or – take the 12 minutes during Captain America) until after midnight.

Around 1-something we went to bed…and enjoyed sweet sleepover slumber until 10 a.m.

The beauty of a sleepover is that there are typically no rules about sleeping in.  You stay up late laughing and giggling about this and that – and truly, it does not change over time.  It’s been a loooong time since I was in the 7th grade…A LONG TIME…but still, our inner 7th graders called out to us to laugh and be nonsensical.  Thus the beauty of the sleepover…

Our Saturday was a bit busy…between me guzzling 3 cups of Keurig coffee which I was totally judged for consuming.  I believe the direct quote was, “How is it that YOU consumed 3 cups of Keurig coffee and you are not laughing hysterically???”  Too which I replied, “You keep me up until 1 a.m. and ruin my great sleep pattern – I’m allowed multiple cups of Keurig coffee.  Please don’t judge.”

We were able to squeeze in the 2nd Thor movie before heading to Alexi’s production of The Sound of Music.  I sat next to Leah.  Big mistake.  Her goal – which she voiced – was to say funny things throughout the play and see if she could get me to laugh outloud.  Her best line was during the eldest VonTrapp girl and the Nazi-boy singing “You are 16 going on 17.”  Leah turned to me and said, “That 16 year old is getting more action than us.”  Thank you kindly for pointing that out.

Along those lines – the next day during Sunday school, my whale wrestling wannabe student told me she won the local fishing derby but was disgusted that she saw her ex-boyfriend.  Have I ever mentioned that I teach 1st through 3rd grades?  And I now have a 1st grade student with an ex-boyfriend which means at one point she had a boyfriend…and I don’t.  *Insert nervous laughter*

After the play, the girls and I child-nabbed Alana to share in her birthday merriment.  The poor kid was interrogated “Where do you want to eat?”  She really didn’t know…  We gave her a wide-open door and she couldn’t make up her mind.  We, then, turned it in to 20 questions and eventually waltzed through the doors at Applebee’s.

With the commencing of nourishment, our next activity – selected by the birthday girl – was bowling.

Have you ever gone bowling and used bumpers to block off your gutter balls?  That is genius and I want those every time I bowl.  {I’m an adult.  That is probably unacceptable.}  I will just need to bring a child with me every time I bowl.  It’s only fair “for the children” to have the bumpers…well, it’s “fair” for Miss Angie too.  Maybe.  Sort of.  Not really.  It was just nice not getting any gutters.

Our evening wound down after bowling…  Miss Rhonda parted ways and the girls & I took Miss Birthday Girl back to her house where we watched Madagascar 2 while we waited for her sister & parental unit to return.

Fun was had by all.

Sunday afternoon I watched the rest of Iron Man 3 and then finished out the weekend with the 1st Avengers – thankfully Leah and Uhura had invited themselves over to join me in the superhero movie watching.  It’s more fun watching movies with someone.

And now here it is a whole week after the superhero movie watching…  All of the DVDs have been returned.  I do still have to watch the 2nd Captain America.  I’ve been told that it’s the best one!

My mom is visiting.  She doesn’t seem like a superhero watchin’ kinda gal…but just think, a week ago I did not think of myself as a superhero watching gal and LOOK AT ME NOW!!!!  I have a crush on Captain America.  I kinda like that Iron Man is always eating.  That dude hearts food.  I don’t even mind the Hulk…not the old-school Hulk from when I was kid.  THAT GUY was creepy.  But the Mark Ruffalo Hulk is charming…and he was always trying to keep his anger at bay.

I’m not sure what kind of weekend shenanigans we will get in to…there’s potential for greatness.  Tomorrow I have a hair cut and then we will be making our way westward to Freeport…  Sunday is church and then we will go watch my last class of 2nd graders graduate.  Monday…not sure yet…there’s potential.

Have a wonderful long weekend!!!
