My Stay-cation Part 1

Well, it's finally here!!!  My stay-cation.  What's a stay-cation?  It's a week away from work...much like a time-out.  It's where you do a bunch of local-ish things or nothing at all.  Random trips to the library, the thrift, out for lunch, coffee dates, and the list goes on and on.

I'm totally starting my Stay-cation days with Saturday because that was the first official day that I was away from the office with no intentions to even think of a moment about being the Engineering Secretary.

I've intentionally planned morning coffee outings with some dear friends.  Talk about a great way to start the day!!!  Friends and coffee.

Day #1 shenanigans:
Gym, groceries - typical Saturday morning events
Thrifting with Leah, Uhura, and Rhonda
Chick flicks and snacks

I'm not sure what it is about getting together with the girls that brings out our inner 7th-grade girliness.  We laughed and gabbed.  Perhaps it's the combination of snacks, sappy movies, and laughter.  It seems like the perfect trifecta.

Day #2 shenanigans:
Church and then I ventured over to Lanark where I got to partake in the birthday celebrations of a very special 5-year old.  I remember the day he was born and it doesn't feel like it was 5 whole years ago!  Where did the last 60 months go?

Day #3...
This day began with a trip to the gym.  I have to keep going otherwise I will become a gym slacker and that's just not pretty.  I didn't stress out about weights and cardio.  Let me just be honest and confess - now that I am an all-alone-gym-goer I rarely do weights.  Sad, huh?  I miss my gym peeps helping keep me accountable.  Now that it's just me, I have to give myself a 2 minutes pep talk which sounds much like this, "Angie Good, you are sitting in the gym parking lot.  You have cute gym clothes in your gym bag.  You have your tennis shoes.  You need to get yourself inside that gym and do some cardio."

After running home to get ready for coffee, I headed out for a date with Trudy.  Oh my soul - her friendship is such a treasure.  I don't even need a therapist with her around.  :)

Nearing the end of our coffee date, I received 2 texts telling me that my next coffee dates were running late which meant I got to spend 15 more minutes with Trudy.  (Yeah me!)

I met up with Stephanie, Leah and Uhura for pre-pedicure coffee (for me it was just some almonds because let's face it - I did not need 2 coffees).

Pedicure time also included our fabulous pastor's wife.  Five chairs were reserved!  It was fantastic spending a blocked off amount of time with these dear gals.  Soon - we shall be sans 2 of them and that's just sad.

After pedicures, four of us headed down South Alpine Road to the Rescue Mission Thrift where several in my thrift party contributed to supporting of the rescue mission.  I, however, did not find a single item that I could not walk away from.  Talk about willpower!

After thrifting - we headed to sushi where we met Rhonda.  Laughter, sushi, more laughter were in order.

Sushi left us ridiculously full so we parted ways.  The girlies and I headed back to my apartment to watch Disney's Into The Woods.  I give the movie 3 out of 5 stars.  My 2-star deduct is because Disney embraced the whole "do what you want" and allowed 2 characters to cheat.  I was appalled that the song - oh, Into The Woods is a musical! - they sang was about doing whatever feels right and/or good.  {BOOOO!!!! HISS!!!!!!}

This brings me to Day #4 - today!
Sleeping in was the first order of business...and when I say "sleeping in" - I mean sleeping in until the feline sadly meowed to wake-me-up to feed her...at which time, she must've eaten soo quickly that when she jumped on my bed, she "coughed" - or so it sounded like - and barfed up 1/8 of a cup of food.  I'm guessing on the measurement.  I did not actual measure it.  YUCK!  This got me out of bed and doing a load of laundry at circa 7 a.m.  Thankfully my house guests are sound sleepers and did not hear a thing.  I forget what it's like to sleep so soundly that you don't hear someone walking around & then turning on the washing machine.

This afternoon we went and saw the second Avengers movie.  It was delightful.  I would say it was equally delightful as the first - which usually doesn't happen with a sequel.  Most of the time I lament that the first movie was better - but in this instance, I am happy to report that it was just as good as the first.  Oh - and BONUS - because we went during the day it was $5!  Yeah for Tuesday movie outings.

Tomorrow - Day #5 - we have scheduled a trip in to Chicago with Pastor and Roxanne.  You see, we aren't skipping church for the Windy City.  We actually have church tonight - Day #4.  No church tomorrow night.  We are going in to Navy Pier to watch the fireworks and ride the Ferris Wheel.  *Squeals*  I cannot wait.  I love Ferris Wheels which is weird because I am not a roller coaster girl.  Let me say that again...I AM NOT A ROLLER COASTER GIRL!  I prefer gravity and the gravitation effects which keep me on this beautiful earth.  :)

Day #6 is a haircut and a potential trip to Lake Geneva with me and Jane.  Jane Austen.  And my cute vintage bathing suit and fab beach hat.  {RE: my new vintage bathing suit.  I'm not a huge fan of bathing suit shopping.  Infact I have had my other swimsuit for circa 5 years.  There really wasn't anything wrong with it.  It was a tank with a swimmy skirt.  I actually really, really wanted a Reyes swimsuit but they were a bit pricey so after contemplating and considering and much deliberation, I found a navy ruched swimsuit on the Target website.  It has white polkadots and it's fabulous!  I added it to my cart and kept it there for some time before finally clicking CHECKOUT!  It arrived in my mail on Monday.  I tried it on and it fits fabulously and I love it.  It's sooo modest and the polkadots have a charming quality that I had not even factored in to the whole swimsuit purchase.}

Day #7 - no real plans
Day #8 - same as Day #7
Day #9 - Sunday.

I'm not looking beyond Day #9 because, well, it's back to the "W" word and I'm not quite prepared to even contemplate the Engineering Secretary hat that I have thrown to the wind.  *Laughs*

So there you have...part 1 with a sneak peek in to my whole stay-cation.

I will post pictures eventually.

Happy Tuesday!!!

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
