Killing the goldfish memory...

Every time I re-live and remember the fish-killing house-sitting incident, I crack up.  It’s one of those things that happens once in a lifetime.  Let’s hope and pray only ONCE in a lifetime.

A couple of years ago, I was dog-sitting for my favorites in Cherry Valley.  While dog-sitting, the string on their blinds broke.  This was very unnerving because I’m a good house- / dog-sitter.  I don’t throw wild parties.  I clean up after myself.  I’m tidy and neat.  I will, however, drink all of your coffee!!!  And I will consume all of the dark chocolate in your cabinets.

Second – I put the dogs in the kennel while I was at Wednesday night church.  The commute to church was 15 minutes there and back.  So that’s a half hour.  The service is always 60 minutes.  Let’s say I gabbed with my friend for 15ish…sooo basically in 1.75 hours, those dogs caused enough commotion to get the neighbors upset and contact Animal Control as I came home to bright YELLOW notice tacked on the door.  Basically the animal police wrote me up!!!

And lastly, I overfed and killed their pet fish.  In my defense, I didn’t realize fish would always appear hungry.  They don’t eat until they are full.  They keep eating and eating and eating and BAM – they are swimming in the big aquarium in the sky.

Needless to say, I did not text or call the family.  I left them the following note…

Welcome home.  A couple of things happened while you were gone...
1. The cord on the blinds in the living room broke.
2. Your dogs were obnoxious in the kennel while I was at church and Animal Control stopped by and left me a scary warning.
3. I killed your fish.
Hope you had a good vacation!
