Clear Nail Polish

Today I was perusing a recycled issue of Good Housekeeping and stumbled upon this little nugget of goodness.

"Button hanging by a thread?  Avoid this by coating a button center with a drop of clear nail polish.  Once it's dry, it will prevent the stitches from fraying over time.  Beyond rescuing buttons, a drop of clear nail polish can keep eye-glasses screws in place.  You can also brush it on earring posts, backs or hooks (to prevent earlobe irritation) and dip the unraveling ends of shoelaces in to seal them.  And don't forget it's original off-label use:  stopping runs in pantyhose."  ~ Carolyn Forte

Sewing Quote of the Day

Date:  Friday, April 5, 2013
Time:  Afternoonish

Co-worker:  "You should stop at Hancock Fabrics and ask them about the chiffon."
Me:  "Really?  I was thinking about just throwing it away or using it to wrap presents."
Co-worker:  "There might be some tape or adhesive that you can use to fix your problem."

(A little while later)

Same co-worker:  "Vogue and Butterick patterns have more pieces which is why they fit better.  The more pieces the closer the fit."
Me:  "Oh!" (a-ha moment unfolding!)  "That makes sense..."
Co-worker:  "Vogue patterns.  Be careful with those.  They can tend to be complicated because they are...(pause for effect)...VOGUE!"

It was as if this lightbulb clicked on for me...

Me:  "...and Simplicity patterns are SIMPLE!  I get it!  Here I thought it was a play on words but it's really truth."

Ah-ha Moment

Sooooooooo today I realized why the people who have signed-up to donate blood receive a cute little piece of candy and a note reminding them of their donation time.  The candy is a LIFE SAVER.  I finally got it!!!  Blood saves lives.  Life saver.

I was sharing with my co-worker and she shared her ah-ha moment.  She had always seen “Deer Xing” signs.  She said she always wondered what “deer zing” meant…one day when she was completely relaxed and her mind went into a calm state, she realized the sign was saying “Deer Crossing.”

I love ah-ha moments, don’t you?

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
