My grandma's frosting recipe

When I was little, my Grandma Anderson would make us the coolest birthday cakes. I remember one year she made a Barbie cake for my birthday. I can still picture it. She used a doll and the skirt was the cake. It was frosted pink with purple flowers.

As I got older, I realized that the cakes my Grandma made were special because she made them with love. Even though it hurt her hands to continually squeeze the bags of frosting, she did it because she loved us. She also loved to crochet...and she made each of us grandkids an afghan. Mine has multiple brightly colored blocks resembling flowers. I love this blanket.

I realize that keeping her famous frosting recipe all to myself is extremely selfish...so I would like to share it with you. And in sharing it, it is helping me keep her memory alive. I miss her terribly.

Fabulous Frosting Recipe
1 two pound bag powdered sugar
1/2 c. powdered milk
Dash salt
1/2 - 3/4 c. Crisco
Water (or milk) -- start out with 1/4 cup and add gradually until desired consistency.

Mix all ingredients together. Gradually add more liquid until you arrive at the correct consistency. WARNING: If you are adding liquid food coloring, you can leave your frosting slightly firmer. The liquid coloring will soften it. (If your frosting is too runny, add extra powdered sugar.)
