I hate those moments when I get tongue-tied and the thing I want to say comes to me 20 minutes after the incident.
The incident...
A man old enough to be my father said to me: "You look really pretty today, Angie. I wish I was closer to you because I could just kiss you!"
My initial reaction: GAG ME WITH A FORK!!!!! This is soo 1992...but for real!!!!
My second reaction: THANK YOU, LORD, FOR A PEW AND THE PEOPLE INBETWEEN US!!!!!
Why did this seem appropriate? Why say this outloud?
Not cool.
I did not reply but rather awkwardly smiled and then when it came time to greet one another and shake hands, I made a beeline to the safety of normal people...Mrs. Whitt and my friend Julie.
Perhaps he was taking the "greet one another with a holy kiss" literally.
The "you look pretty" part felt cheapened and made me wish I did not infact look pretty.
*Sigh*
What should I have said? For starters, "Just because Paul said to greet one another with a holy kiss does not mean that we should do that here at Windsor!"
