This afternoon I had the distinct pleasure of meeting my friend Ginger for coffee at Starbucks. We just soo happened to pick my favorite Starbucks in the area -- the one with the huge patio!!!
I would like to say for the record -- I do not recall the Weather Channel making any mention of storms coming through our area this afternoon.
We met up at 3 p.m. and immediately ordered our beverages of choice. Too make it easy on the barrista, we ordered the same non-shugga-ish beverages, Shaken Passion Lemonade. BONUS: No caffeine!!! :) I know my limitations and let me just say....if there had been caffeine-consumption at circa 3 p.m., I would up way late tonight blogging about pure nothing-ness. And although it's fun to read one or two blog posts that are severely random, thirty-five blog posts that are about nothing at all except silly things that aren't really silly...well, that could be just painful! Let's be honest now...
Soo where was I? Oh yes - we ordered our beverages and headed back outside to the patio. We decided on a table with a huge umbrella to my left. One other umbrella was off to the right of where we were seated. Technically it was right kiddy-corner from our table. (Is it "kiddy-corner" or "kitty-corner"? I think I heard someone call it "caddy-corner" once but that just seems way too awkward!)
We enjoyed some super sweet fellowship. When I am with Ginger and she asks how I am doing, I feel like I can be 100% honest with her. I can pour out my heart and I never ever worry about her thinking less of me or telling me to get over the hurt that I am going through. She just listens and interjects when she feels lead. I'm truly blessed because of her friendship. And because of this sincerity, I felt like a ton of bricks was being lifted off my back when I was able to share what was weighing heavily on my heart.
As we sat out there sharing, I began to notice that the sky was turning a darker blue - almost Eyeore-ish color...the wind had picked up and the temperature had fallen about 10 degrees. Just about the time this happened, Ginger said, "Wouldn't it be cool to die on this patio?" Too which I replied, "Can you imagine when they asked at our funerals, 'How did Angie and Ginger perish?' Reply: 'Well, they were sitting on the patio at Starbucks, talking, and laughing...'
No sooner (and I mean literally NO SOONER) had we said those words, the wind picked up and blew the umbrella that was kiddy-corner over to our direction. And had we been 6 inches or so closer - I do believe we would've been impaled. Three guys came running (HONESTLY -- ARE THEY SINGLE? MEN COMING TO OUR RESCUE!!!! HERE'S MY CELL NUMBER...) and up righted the umbrella and then doted on us and made sure we were okay.
We decided to go sit inside for the remainder of our visit. And I don't think I am exaggerating when I say - we no more than had closed the door behind us when the heavens opened up and the rains came down! I have been in 2 hurricanes and 1 tropical storm, so I have it on good authority when I say: WOW -- THE WINDS WERE UN-NERVING AND THE RAIN WAS COMING DOWN SIDEWAYS!!!!! IT LOOKED TERRIBLE OUTSIDE!
Being the good girls that we are...we continued talking until the storm had subsided. Our mommas didn't raise fools. We know better than to go outside in a downpour. Goodness. All this beauty and the good Lord gave us a plethora of brains!!! :)
So there you have...the tale of Angie and Ginger and their near-death-umbrella-impalement story. BE SAFE OUT THERE! BE SAFE AT STARBUCKS!
