This past fall, I made a very bold declaration to my Bible Study Girls...that being, "Disney has duped us." I believe the topic of discussion was contentment. I recall the speaker sharing that of her own personal struggle with contentment. Contentment is being satisfied with God and realizing that He is enough.
So, why the Disney comment? Because I struggle with being content being single. The lesson on contentment gave specific areas of contentment and one of those areas was on marital status. She said something so profound (pardon the Angie-paraphrase), You can think that marriage and children will bring contentment but it won't. It won't bring you contentment because true contentment comes from realizing that God is all that you need.
At the conclusion of our lesson that evening, we shared our struggles with contentment. I feel very close to the girls in my Bible study group so I did not hesitate to pour out my heart on this issue. "Disney has duped us. In any of the Princess movies, the nice girl goes along doing what she normally does -- which by the way, isn't alot. I mean really -- Cinderella had the mice to clean and sew for her; Snow White had seven men to be at her beckon call. The girl skips through her day, meets her Prince Charming, and they are married in the morning. Life isn't like that. Disney has set the bar so high for men -- Prince Charming. I'm not saying that there's not a 'Prince Charming' out there for me. But I am saying that realistically -- Disney has duped us."
While enjoying a cup of coffee this morning and thinking about this blog post -- I do that sometimes...create a blog post in my head and then type it out -- where was I? Oh yes, drinking coffee and thinking about Disney...I would have to say the only Disney movie that I really enjoy that doesn't leave me with a sense of Where in the world is MY Prince Charming? is the movie "Ever After." I enjoy this movie because it takes an unexpected turn. The girl doesn't get the prince...she gets the one meant for her.
Oh stink - now I want to watch "Ever After" but...alas, I have to venture to work.
Tootles!
