Playing in the dirt...

"Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity."  Lindley Karstens

So today I decided to spend some time pulling weeds and making my walkway more cottage-y.  For the last two summers, I have not planted anything...not even impatients in my windowboxes.  It's quite tragic because I love, LOVE playing in the dirt.

Here are two before pictures...

A couple of hours later, and this is what my walkway looks like.  I am going to add some daisies and cone flowers from my crafty friend's cottage garden.  Hey - a cottage garden at the cottage!!!  How charming.

This Midnight Rose Alum Root (aka "Cora-Bell") was a birthday present.  How fun!  A perennial birthday present!!!

I love lilies!  I bought one container of these delightful flowers.

These little charmers will fill my coffee mugs to over-flowing.  I love impatients.

More impatients because the flats were super cheap...

And lastly...my mini-lilac shrubbery.  Do you like how I left the tag on it?  I figure I will leave it on 'til the weather removes it.  This way there's no question if this is a weed or a shrubbery.  (...laughed the girl with curly hair.)

Ideally, I would like to have a herb garden too...but I need to wait to get those plants.

I've come to the realization that I am cottage garden kinda gal.  "Cottage garden" as in perennials galore.  Why plant year after year and spend money when you can buy perennials and plant once and reap the benefits for years to come?  Sounds sensible and fabulous to me.
