The journey to contentment often begins when we become disillusioned with the self-absorbed life.
Perspective: Looking through; seeing clearly; the capacity to view things in their true relation of relative importance.
God's Perspective: Viewing our lives through God's eyes
A Recognize discontentment.
1. Accumulation of things
2. Manipulation of circumstances
3. Comparing ourselves
4. Perceived injustices
5. Irritants of life
6. Anxieties and fears
7. Overwhelmed by trials
8. Disillusioned with life
Christians are not to seek after more than God has given them.
B. Pursue contentment
Contentment must become a habit. It can be learned.
Philippians 4:11-13 - "Not that I speak in respect of want; for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased and I know how to abound; every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
1. Think right.
a. Control your thoughts
b. Choose to pray.
2. Do right. - Live for others and not for yourself.
a. Living for yourself is a fading glory.
b. Be a good steward.
c. Keep eternity in view. This world is not my final rest. We are just passing through.
