Last fall while thrifting in Chattanooga with my mom, I bought a cute purple jacket (Merona brand). It has 3/4-length sleeves and buttons off-center...and (MY FAVORITE PART) there's a cute ruffle down the front and on the collar. Said jacket was tucked away with my fall/winter clothing.
On Sunday night, I signed-in to the Pinterest website and searched "purple jacket outfits." Most of the outfits were jeans paired with cute purple jackets. A few of the purple jackets were 1987-style and let's be honest -- SCARY! Why in the world are designers bringing back the circa 1980-1989 styles? They may have been styles, but they were BAD styles. Knit skirts, stirrup pants, etc. The only good thing from that decade - and NOTE: I use the term good very loosely - is leg warmers. They are soo cute and WARM! I'm actually considering getting a pair but I know the minute I put them on - all those crazy songs that I heard back-in-the-day will come flooding to mind and then...it just won't be pretty. I'd rather not go back to big hair and bad, bad (shudder) clothing.
Where in the world was I?
Oh, yes, Pinterest.
I managed to find a sensible outfit - a purple jacket paired with a cute patterned skirt and heels. At this point, a lightbulb clicked ON and I remembered my favorite Loft wool skirt...it's gray with embroidered black flowers and little sparkles woven in to the length of the pleated skirt. It comes below my knee and is really warm. I added black tights, black heels, a long-sleeved black t-shirt (for an extra layer of warmth...more on that in a second), a black headband, and silver earrings. Ta-da!!! Pinterest saved the day.
I'm not the only girl who does this. Tonight before church, my friend Julie and I were chatting and I discovered that she does this too.
Ok - regarding the multiple layers... My place of employment is really nice; however, we are missing humidity on "our" side of the building. It's dry air and too be honest, it's cold. Too avoid freezing to death - because where's the fun in hypothermia and frost bite? - I wear a gazillion [that may be a smallish sort of exaggeration] layers...camis, long sleeve t-shirts, wool sweaters, etc.
I figure this colder air is just an opportunity to get me up and walking around...you know, for WARMTH. I'd hate to turn in to a Popsicle. First - it would make my lips bluish. Not really a look I am going for. It's smurf-y, yes...however I prefer pink. Second - I bet it would be extremely painful to freeze to death. I'm not the kind of girl that likes to do extreme science experiments so count me out!
