This past week....

Sorry about going MIA for the past 5 or 6 days.

Where do I even begin???

Monday was New Year's Eve.  Normally my ring-in-the-new-year plans include laundry and one of my many sappy chick flicks.  This year, however, I had plans.  Pastor and Roxanne invited the college & career group over to welcome 2013.  We played games and snacked and played more games and snacked some more.

My favorite memory of the evening was at approximately 10:30, all conversating ceased and we all just kind-of stared at one another in a dazed-like-state...someone broke the silence by stating how it was getting late.  We made our way back to the snacks and got rejuvenated with nourishment.

It was soo nice getting together and ending 2012 with friends from church.

Tuesday ~ New Year's Day!!!  I love days off.  My friend Stephanie sent a lovely text inviting me to meet her at Red Mango and get a pedicure.  On the way to meet her at Red Mango, I thought, Red Mango - it's the breakfast of champions!!!  Guess what...they don't open for "breakfast."  (Sigh.)  The sign said 11:00 a.m. so Steph and I meandered through Kohl's.  The beauty of meandering through a store with no intentions of purchasing anything, I could just ramble on and on about the previous evening and not be on the look-out for anything particular.  After meandering, we went and enjoyed peppermint frozen treats.  It seemed a little strange being at Red Mango when the outside temperature hovered around 18 degrees.  Too make the whole situation funnier, Steph was wearing flip-flops.  (Remember -- PEDICURES!)  Well...it turns out that all the pedicure places were closed due to the holiday.  Sooo we took our frozen toes and our frozen treats and went back to Red Mango and sat in their comfy chairs and expounded on life, the holidays, etc.  It was a wonderful therapy session.

After this outing, I returned to the cottage and finished knitting a top secret project.

The next morning was work.  It is strange to me when a holiday day off is on a week day (other than Monday or Friday) because you work a day and then have a day off...and then work the next day.  I thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday.  It was a quiet work day and I was able to work without interruptions.

We are getting ready to put out for bid three huge projects.  Each of these projects has a 200 page spec book.  Each project book required a minimum of 12 copies.  36 books x 200 pages = 7,200

Do you ever get a little nervous about something and then something else goes amok which then causes the little bit of nervousness to turn in to full-blown FREAK-OUT MODE???  Well...here's how that went...

7,200 copies need to be made by the time the advertisements go in to the paper.  Remember this fact.

Thursday afternoon - I sent out an email:  "The deadline is 4 p.m. for complete approval of the publication documents."  I like to refer to this as MISTAKE NUMBER ONE....(read on, friends.)

3:45 - Ring!  Ring!  "Hi.  This is ________ from the newspaper. Do you have those legal ads ready?"
Me:  "No."  (Insert shaky voice)  "I don't honestly know what's going on with them and I am really stressed about this...I'm soo sorry."  (Tears!)
Newspaper gal:  "Angie, it's ok.  Please stop worrying about this.  It's quarter-til.  It's ok really."
Me:  "I will do my best to get them to you soon."

3:50 - The three unsigned ads are presented to me.  I then traipse across the building to obtain signatures.  All the while wondering how in the world I would be able to get these to the paper before 4:00.

At some point in my march across the building, the thought struck me -- If this doesn't end up in tomorrow's paper, it's not my fault.  Truth be told - it really did feel like partially my fault.  If I had a jet-pack and could fly...wow - that would've saved time and steps.  :)

4:12 - done.  The ads were sent - proofs returned for my approval - approval granted.  My heart returned to a normal beat rhythm.

4:14 - enter the procrastinator.  "We did such a great job today!"  I replied, "This will never, NEVER happen again.  Do you understand?"  Exit procrastinator.

4:30 could not come soon enough.

Please note - at 4:30, not a single book (the 7,200 pages) had been created.

Thankfully I had Thursday night plans with my coffee peeps.  We met at Starbucks at circa 5 p.m.  Not at 5 like I had thought/hoped/intended.  Oops.

The beauty of meeting the girls is that I know I can be 100% myself and they love me because I'm me.  Crazy and goofy, but me.  :)

We drank coffee, enjoyed snacks, and then went to a couple of local retail establishments - Michael's, TJ Maxx, Hallmark, and Gordman's.  Here are some random highlights from our shopping adventure...

* I called Michael's while we were
standing IN the Michael's store.
"Where's the burlap?"

* Laughing in the Hallmark store

* Losing each other in Gordman's

* Discussing any potential hazards of Modge Podge

* Christmas Clearance @ Michael's

* Not being able to find Lauren in Gordman's

* Laughing and laughing

* Telling the Gordman's associate
that Joey from the Ukraine says "Hi."

I feel like the following day should be a post in and of itself...

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
