Braeburn apples

I'm not sure what to title this post so for now, the title reads "Post title."

I went to Woodman's this afternoon.  I want to make a crockpot of chili -- mostly because it's easy and I will have leftovers.  (I heart leftovers.)  (I, also, heart my crockpot.)  (Not sure why I used two separate sets of parentheses.)

While at Woodman's, I also wanted to pick up a bag of apples.  I'm a Fuji apple kinda gal.  Fuji apples, in case you've never tried them, are FABULOUS!!!  They are a sweet apple because they remain on the tree until after the first frost.

Well...Woodman's did not have bags of Fuji apples...they did, however, have Braeburn, Granny Smith, and Delicious.  Let's work backwards...Delicious?  No thanks.  I'd rather eat a sponge.  I don't care of the texture and too be honest, the last Delicious apples I purchased from Woodman's had sponge-like texture.  I'll pass.  Granny Smith...too tart.  I use Granny Smith apples to make crockpot applesauce which normally would be wonderful; however, my crockpot will be employed making me chili.  Granny Smith - no thanks.  This left me with Braeburns.  I bought a bag.  They looked pretty.

Fast forward several hours later...
Instead of making something for supper, I decided an apple and peanut butter would suffice.  I carefully watched my Braeburn apple and cut it up into delightful pieces.  I opened my new jar of peanut butter and scooped out some creamy bliss.  The apple chunk received a good smothering -- as all apple chunks should be smothered in peanut butter.  I took a bite...and WOW-ZAHS!!!  Braeburn apples are tart.  The skin looked sooo pretty and apple-ish that I never considered the tart-factor.

(Sigh.)

While eating the tart apple and trying to cover up the tartness by an absurd amount of peanut butter, I decided I might take the rest of the bag and make baked apples...I could use some raw sugar or honey to sweeten them.

Note to self:  Just because the apples look pretty, it doesn't mean that they will taste "pretty."

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
