Northanger Abbey Quote #2 and the e-book

"All [women] have been, or at least all have believed themselves to be, in danger from the pursuit of some one whom they wished to avoid; and all have been anxious for the attentions of some one whom they wished to please."

Up until yesterday I was carrying around with me the ENTIRE works of Jane Austen.  No joke.  The book was the size of my English Lit book from EN 200-something.  It's nearly 5 inches thick and quite heavy.  I figured if I got mugged, I could use the book --- WAIT!  I want to retract this thought.  There's no way if I was getting mugged that I, Angie Good, would throw Jane Austen at someone.  Now, I would, however, happily whirl a tote holding J.A.'s works and beat them with said book bag.  I like whirling things round-and-round.  At my place of employment, we have name tags.  They are plastic - credit card sized badges that we are required to wear and swipe to enter buildings and secure hallways.  When I leave work, I unclip the name badge holder and hold the card in my right hand, then I whirl the metal part 'round and 'round.  I do it every day.  Most days I can hear my mother's voice warning me, "Angela Dawn - what would you do it that snapped and broke and flew through the air and hurt someone?"  I'd probably nervous laugh.  It's my tragic flaw and pretty much the reason why I did not feel compelled to be a nurse or a doctor.  Well, that and I helloooooooooooo ----> blood and needles and guts and stuff!  Ick!!!

Where was I?  Oh, yes, the twirling/whirling my name tag.  Every day that it's not raining I do this.  I don't think I could hold my purse, my tote with reading material and/or knitting projects, the name tag whirl-around AND an umbrella.  I've got talent, people...just not THAT much talent.

Yesterday I decided carrying the complete works was a little out of control.  I carry it to and from work...not that I have a bad back or a bad shoulder...but seriously - I have this little thing called a Nook.  It stores e-books.  I've had it for over a year.  And so I thought to myself, Angie Good, why don't you just download the e-book?  Carrying your Nook is easier than this 2,000 page monster!

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
