Remembering...

I recently finished reading Karen Kingsbury's book One Tuesday Morning.  It's a fictional story about the real-life events that happened that on September 11, 2001.

For me - this book is a re-read.  My first experience with this book was in 2005.  I read it while traveling to Florida to spend spring break with one third of the trio.

Karen's amazing writing style swept me back to 2001.  She begins the story a couple of days before September 11th and then shows the characters going through the event and then the next couple of months.

I forgot.  I forgot so many things about that fateful Tuesday morning.  I forgot the sinking feeling when I heard the news.  I forgot that I knew someone who may have been working in the World Trade Center building the morning of the attacks.  I forgot hearing about the two other planes.  The heroic events of the plan that crashed in the field in Pennsylvania.  I forgot staring at the t.v. screen and hoping against hope that what I was seeing was just a bad dream.  It wasn't.

As I read through the story, I was reminded that for so many - September 11th changed everything.  Children lost their parent(s).  Families were forever impacted by the loss.

We've moved on, haven't we, America?  Yes, we pause on September 11th and observe a moment of silence...but do we remember those people trying to move on?  The brave rescue workers that risked their lives.  The brave rescue workers that still are risking their lives.  The armed services who protect our country.

One Tuesday Morning has reminded me to pray.
