I've not blogged much this week...

I'm blaming the heat and humidity for my lack of blogging.  Trust me - I've had blog-worthy moments.  Like the phone call of the century:  Four minutes before we close-up shop and head home, a guy called-in to tell me that he was not happy that the newly dug-up, freshly graveled roadway was bumpy.  Seriously.  Gravel bumpy?  (Snarky gasp!)  The nerve of the gravel to be bumpy.  I'm pretty sure the gravel was the straw that broke the poor camel's back.  I let him vent.  We all need one person to listen to us and I knew since it was the end of the day, I would be at the gym in circa 30 minutes where I would laugh and enjoy the release of those little gems:  endorphins.

Whenever I have someone slightly upset (i.e. irate), I always picture them wearing a pair of too big sweatpants that have one of those obnoxious "stamps" across the backside.  The stamp (in my head) reads:  CRANKY PANTS.  Although I'm fairly certain everyone around Mr. Gravel Shouldn't Be Bumpy is aware of the sweatpants label without actually reading said label.

Don't get me wrong - I've gotten a little upset about things as ridiculous as bumpy gravel, but too call someone and just go on and on and on and on about the gravel...for real.  It's gravel.

Once he stopped talking, I told him to rest assured the gravel was just the beginning and we would be placing pavement ontop of the bumpy-wumpy gravel.  Ok, so I don't say "bumpy-wumpy" but I sure wanted too.

On my way out the door at 10 minutes after everyone else, I decided if CP (Cranky Pants) called back, I would begin a wonderful expository (i.e. dissertation) on the construction steps between gravel and asphalt.  I remember those glorious Terracon days when I typed reports about proofrolling and such.

What else happened this past week?  Hmmmmmmm....  It's been hot and humid here.  Not that it should be a surprise because it is AUGUST.  However, we've been spoiled.  I will admit it.  The weeks of 70 degree weather and no humidity have made us wimps.  It's the same when we have a mild winter.  When the real winter happens (and by the way - the Farmers' Almanac said:  COLD WINTER WITH LOTS OF SNOW!!!!), we complain and grumble because it's too cold and too snow and too icky out.  Ummmm -- it's winter.

I think the four seasons are such a blessing.  We get summer in all her warmth and sunshine.  In the fall, we have crisp mornings and warm days with the turning of the leaves.  In the winter, colder temps which cause us to crave heartier meals and keep us inside snuggled under fleece blankets watching sappy movies.  In the spring, new life and the landscape changes from dull to vibrant and fabulous!

Fall is and probably always will be my fave...which makes me happy that we are about to turn our calendars to September.  September.  Fall.  (Sigh.)

Where was I? Oh yes - I had intended to discuss my theory that the heat & humidity causes people to be crazy.

Speaking of crazy....this afternoon after our department meeting, several co-workers were gathered on one side of the lobby pond.  They appeared to be studying the tank and its contents.  Afterward my co-worker told me that the huge catfish has gone MIA.  Now - stop right there - how can a fish go MIA?  There are really only two options:  he jumped out of the tank thus committing fishy suicide (which is honestly my biggest fear in regards to that creepy catfish!  I just know one day I am going to be walking to a bid opening and turn and see the creepy catfish flailing about on the ground...and let gets one thing straight:  I'm not going to help him back in to the pond.  No, thank you!) or he died & the others ate him.  Actually there could be a third reason he is gone and this my co-worker's theory:  The fish dude {we have a fish guy who feeds and tends to the lobby aquatic-ish residence} noticed the catfish was bullying the other fish.  My co-worker and I think the catfish may have been a gangsta.  Not even kidding.  He had swarmy eyes and always slunk to the bottom of the tank.  My co-worker said we would know for sure that he was a gangsta if he had a gangsta hat and a cigar.  Yes, we did discuss this for about 3 minutes.  It was 4 p.m.  We want to know where the catfish went.  Perhaps tomorrow we can get answers.  If he was bullying, maybe getting thrown into the Rock River will teach him a lesson.  We take bullying (even among the fish) seriously.  You can't just bully your way through life.  You won't have any real friends.  How would that make you feel?  Yes, I realize I am having a fictitious conversation with a missing fish.  Look - I'm not the one forcing you to read my random blog post.  You are reading this of your own, free will.  :)

Aside from the heat & humidity, Mr. Cranky Pants, and the missing catfish - this week has been fabulous.  Lauren and I have been faithful about working-out!  I'm so thankful she is willing to meet me at the gym.  Not having anyone to converse with makes for a long work-out.

Tomorrow is Friday.  Actually, I thought today was Friday but it's not.  Today was Thursday.  And it will remain Thursday for a few more hours.

What I really can't believe is that Sunday is September 1st!!!  How did THAT happen?  I mean - August usually flies by because I am house-/dog-sitting...but SERIOUSLY -- August went by like that (insert me snapping my fingers).

Summer is winding down.  Fall is upon us.  Which reminds me - I haven't been to Michael's (the craft store) in months.  LITERALLY -- it's been months.  As of late - I go to JoAnn's (mostly for fabric :)) or Hobby Lobby.  Tonight I went to Michael's and meandered about looking for a photograph-holding mousepad in the $1.50 bin.  I found it!!!  Bonus.  My current mousepad at work has a calendar from 2012.  Somewhere along the way, I forgot to get one for 2013.  My new one is for 2014...which is fine because I'm sure September, October, November and December will fly by.  I do love fall and hope that it sticks around for a bit.  I'd love a fall that went from September until Thanksgiving.  Wouldn't that be grand?  We will just have to wait and see.

Happy almost Friday!!!

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
