Smitten and other random things... :)

Every year I grow more and more smitten with fall.  Autumn.  The changing of the leaves.  A nip in the air.  Snuggly hooded sweatshirts and all things pumpkin.  Baking.  (Sigh.)  I heart fall.

This afternoon as I waited for my smallish pot of decaf coffee to brew, I said to myself, "Decaf coffee on a rainy, fall-ish Sunday afternoon...this is sooo autumn-ish and sooo me!!!"  Add this to my love of all things fall list.

Church choir begins tonight.  This morning the evangelist talked about the 4 different choir "groups" - bass, tenor, alto and soprano.  He said the altos were smokers before they were saved.  Oh my goodness - talk about crack me up.  It actually reminded me of the funniest phone of my working career.  A couple years ago, a person called me up and ranted and raved about some sewer issues she was having.  {Aren't you envious that you don't work at the sewage treatment plant?}  Anywho....if my memory serves me right, the ranting lasted for several minutes.  When this person took a break (read:  breath!), I asked this person, "Sir, what is your name?"  There was a 0.3 second pause followed by the reply, "Beverly."  GASP!!!!  Beverly?  When this registered (a millisecond later), I said, "Please hold!" and placed Bev on hold until I could regain my composure to return to the call and apologize.  The lesson learned:  never ever, ever use "Sir" or "Ma'am" on the phone until the procurement of the name.

It's rained most of the day and the overcast sky amplifies the blahness (pretty sure that's a word) of the day.  My mug of decaf coffee is warming my hands.  I've been working on four tricky-to-knit dishcloths.  (Read:  basketweave.)  I've only knitted this pattern two or three times max...and now that I have 3.33333 done, I know why!!!  It's an eighteen row pattern that is repeated 4 times.  I've learned that, unlike my favorite patterns, I cannot knit this pattern at work - where I may be interrupted by well-meaning co-workers.  It's not that I don't welcome the "Hello!"....it's just the pattern is tricky and tend to lose track where I am in the row and then I think I'm on another row.  It's not pretty.  I've had to start and restart this several times.

If I'm not a complete basketcase by the time I complete these basketweave dishcloths, I will resume my Christmas knitting project.  Speaking of Christmas...did you know that there are 100 days until Christmas?  I didn't count.  It's just I have one of those desk calendars that tells you numerically what day of the year it is and then there's  a slash with the number of days left in the year.  I happened to glance at my calendar on Friday and I noticed that as of today, there are 107 days left in the year.  Minus the 7 days between Christmas and New Year's and BAM --- Christmas.  It really is just around the corner.  It seemed ridiculous last January to buy yarn for the following Christmas, but now that I have 30 dishcloths ready to go and I only have 15 more to finish, guess who doesn't feel funny now?  This girl!!!!  (* Smiles *)

Happy lazy Sunday!!!

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
