In January, I joined a book club at one of the local churches. We meet the second Monday night of the month.
Tonight was my third book club meeting. We were assigned the book "The Prayer Box" by Debbie Wingate. I did not get the book finished. I am approximately 100 pages from the end.
I love to read. I love fiction. Why the trouble reading this? A) Someone dies in the very beginning and it kind of weird-ed me out. B) It is a library book and someone placed it on hold...so I could not renew it and continue reading. I had to wait for their three-week allotted check-out time to elapse. In the meantime, I read through 3 or 4 other books so when "The Prayer Box" came back to me, I had to skim through what I had previously read.
After an hour of gabbing about new books and our summer reading schedule, we dove in to our current read...only to be rudely interrupted around 8 p.m. by the blaring fire alarm.
We were ushered outside so as not to take chance that I needed the building may indeed be going up in blazes. It wasn't. Praise the Lord!!!
We were afforded about 15 minutes standing outside, watching the skies get a deeper shade on black and then there was lightning and thunder. Several of the ladies left...a few of us persevered. I stayed to purchase the ridiculously discounted next reading assignment..."The Prodigal."
When I went to exit the on-site bookstore, rain was falling in sheets. Slanted sheets...reminiscent of my college-hurricane days. I decided to hang-out in the bookstore for another 5 minutes until the weather subsided. I mean SERIOUSLY....5 EXTRA MINUTES IN A BOOKSTORE IS LIKE MEG'S ASKING IF I WANT FREE REFILLS!!! The answer is always an emphatic YES!!!!!! Followed with "please & thank you" because my dear, sweet mom taught me manners. :)
So there you have it...fire alarms...dangerous rains & winds...and a book not quite completed.
