Navy Pier is taking down its Ferris Wheel. This Ferris Wheel is the very Ferris Wheel that was introduced at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois. You are not even going to believe this but I am currently reading a book by Deeanne Gist about this very fair. It's titled, It Happened at the Fair. Deeanne's writing style has once again charmed me. Her leading lady is delightful and witty and she happens to captivate the heart of a honest, hard-working inventor.
As I read the article about the demolishing and re-constructing of a bigger and better Ferris Wheel to be housed at Navy Pier in the same location as my beloved current Ferris Wheel, I couldn't help but think...change is tough. Why can't a good thing just stay a good thing?
I mean, I get it - the new Ferris Wheel will be able to accommodate 10 people per car while the current can only hold 6. The new one will be several feet taller than the current. More people - more height...that's nice.
This past June - Pastor, Roxanne, Leah, Uhura and I went in to Chicago and rode the Ferris Wheel - TWICE!!!! I'm so thankful we did this...
Sooo often I think, Well, I can do that next time, and I put off doing that thing that I want to do... Not any more.
You see - when I was a nanny in New Jersey - just outside of Newark, I said, "I will get back to New York City and tour the World Trade Center Buildings." I never did. Complete regret.
I do not want missed opportunities. I don't want to look back and think, I wish I would've just sent that text or that letter or that email or made that phone call...
Sooo this morning - I sent an email about this Ferris Wheel conundrum hoping that perhaps the recipient will read it and ponder a quick trip in to see this wonderful piece of machinery.
