It's funny how...
1. a restful weekend can help make the following Monday quite charming.
2. a step-back from a ridiculous accusation can make words flow so sweetly.
3. when you point out that you will be Ireland and unable to pick up lunch for a bunch of engineers that someone else changes their tune and you suddenly return to the status World's Most Beloved Engineering Secretary.
My weekend was a mixture of charm and rest. *sigh*
Friday evening was full of a whole lotta nothin'. I cannot even put into words how much this warmed my heart.
Saturday was a hair appointment followed by a trip in to Mount Prospect to watch sweet Alexi play volleyball. Volleyball concluded and supper out (and dessert!!!) was the next order of business followed by a leisure trip back to Rockford.
Sunday was full of Daniel trapped in the lions' den and then a wonderful challenge from God's Word followed by an afternoon of knitting and leisure as our Sunday evening church was cancelled. I thought of it as a FAUX snow day. It wasn't snowy...faux or real. And NO - I did not watch White Christmas. I thought about it...but since it was still officially summer, I decided to exercise some self-control and save W.C. until atleast October.
Monday began with the big guy pulling up a chair in my cubicle. He smirked and proceeded to tell me in a tone I would have used on some bemused 2nd graders, "Now, Angela, if I ask you to do something, I fully expect you to do it. I saw your email to ________ asking her to set up the lunch and learn."
I sweetly replied that since I was overwhelmed on Friday, I thought it was appropriate to delegate.
Delegation won me no points...only more lecturing. *Sigh*
Finally I pulled out the big guns...
With as much elegance and grace that I could muster, I spun my chair over 90ish degrees and grabbed my calendar. I proceeded to change the calendar to October and then I said, "Do you see these X's?" He nods. I continued, "These 2 X's represent when I will be in Michigan celebrating my younger brother's birthday." *I smiled* "And do you see ALL of these X's??? ALL 12 X'S?" He nods. "These are when I will be in Ireland not caring one bit about sewer or this lunch and learn appointment. I delegated because I don't have time. I love getting you guys lunch. I get to leave the office. I do not have time. I'M GOING TO IRELAND!!!!"
It was as if a light went on...or maybe it was more the thought, Sweet Angela is cracking up and I have done this to her!!!!
He thanked me profusely for caring about this lunch meeting and for taking matters into my own hands and delegating.
And the rest of my Monday sailed along smoothly...
