I'm most thankful for my washing machine and dryer. I really don't think I would have did very well living back as a Pioneer Gal. Not that I would have known any different but let's say one of my former students (and I do have one particular student in mind) was to build a time traveling contraption. And that same inventor of this scientific piece of machinery invited me to travel to any other time period for an extended period of time.
Before going back to before the invention of the washing & drying wonderment, I would pack enough clothes so as not to have to find a body of water in which to soak my soiled clothing before wringing it out by hand. Wait - when did they beat it upon a rock? In my head, there was some rock beating of the soiled garments. I know for sure - they used to beat their rugs with a wooden pole. I read all about that in the Little House on the Prairie books.
Back to clothes-beating, I just don't want to do that. It sounds terribly painful for my sundresses and cardigans. I just could not disrespect my cute summer wardrobe with some meanness.
