Day #1: What smell am I grateful for today?

My pastor's wife sent me a 30 days of gratitude Pin.  I skimmed over the 30 topics and have decided to turn this into a series of blog posts.

Here is my disclaimer - My hope is to start this 30 day journey today {July 25th} with an ending date of August 24th.  If I forget to blog one day, please do not panic.  I will make sure I blog through the entire list...I just may not cram it all into the 30-day timetable.  Also I put this disclaimer because in 11 days the Summer Olympic begin and should I get wrapped up in diving and swimming and gymnastics, I may forget a day or two.

Ok - let's start this fun gratitude journey.

Smells.  Technically the grid said "smell" as in 1 smell.  Well, that's just not working for me today as I have several smells that I'm truly thankful for...

1. Fresh air - For the past 5 days, we have been under an Excessive Heat Warning.  I'm talking the temperature was 91 but it felt like 109.  Not even kidding.  One hundred nine degrees.  And that was 109 with all kinds of humidity and grossness.  It was ucky.  Totally gross.  My hair...my poor curls were just MEH.  I considered buying a t-shirt that said, "Sorry about my hair."  Today the humidity subsided and I turned off my AC and opened my windows.  My apartment faces South so I get a lovely breeze.  I'm thankful for the fresh air.

2. Coffee.  I do realize, being the coffee addict that I am, this should have been number 1 but tonight I'm super thankful for the fresh air and coffee is second.  Had I been writing this post tomorrow morning at circa 5:30, I would have totally put coffee as #1...and maybe boldfaced type and a gigantic font size.

3. Lavender.  It's calming.  It makes me happy.  English lavender is the absolute bestest.

4. Baked apples...including apple sauce, apple pie, apple crisp, so on and so forth.

5. Clothesline-dried sheets!!!!  Ok - so I really don't miss much about living in the cottage in the 'hood but one thing I truly miss is living near my crazy crafty friend Nancy.  Nancy Christine had double clotheslines in her backyard and I had access to both lines.  Most spring, summer, and fall weekends I would line-dry my sheets, towels, and rugs.  Yes, it took a few minutes of time to haul the wet articles to Nancy's and then pin them up and then later go back and retrieve the dried items...but it was totally worth it.  Now that I live on the other side of town, it's not conducive for line-drying linens.

6. There's a really nice smelling scruffy guy at my gym.

7. Summer fruit...watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, raspberries, so on and so forth.

8. Kiss My Face Coconut Lotion.  What's weird is that I do not like to consume coconut but I love the smell of coconut.  Strange, huh?

9. Autumn.  Oh my soul...WHY IS THIS NUMBER 9????  The smell of Autumn should be #3...yes, fresh air 1st and then coffee and then Autumn.  I will exercise self-control and not rearrange the numbering because it's not like I stated these were in some kind of order of preference.  *whispers*  Autumn is 3rd.  Totally 3rd.  And perhaps the 1st day of Autumn, I might even say it's #2 - after coffee, of course.

10. Ocean.  I love how the beach has its own scent.  I also love the feeling of sand between my toes.

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
