I love eating lunch outside. There is a park with baseball diamonds nextdoor to my place of employment. Normally my lunchtime is spent quietly with a good book and sunglasses. Yesterday I had a little visitor...in the form of a chipmunk. He was slightly pudgy and if I may say outloud -- rather saucy!
I was minding my own business, eating my salad, and enjoying the sunshine when said chipmunk meandered over near my blanket. He was about 12 inches from me. I got a little un-nerved. A) He's a rodent. B) He was rather brazen. C) Did I mention he is a rodent? Squirrels, chipmunks, possums, skunks...all things that this country girl doesn't mess with. I have a healthy fear of critters that the good Lord created. Especially when they can be cantankerous....sooo I stood up and flailed my arms. And do you know what that chipmunk did? He ran about 3 feet away and stood there staring at me. ME! 5 foot 4 inches. Ummmm....he is what -- 4 inches tops? Well, 4 inches long by 2 inches high when he's on all fours. Needless to say...this stare-down had me a little nervous...so I consumed my salad and headed back to work early. I, then, sat in my car and read my book.
The nerve of that little twit to drive me away from MY favorite lunchtime location.
Today - I am prepared to stand my ground...all 5 foot 4 of it.
