For the love of cashews...

Yesterday one of our contractors brought in a large jar of cashews.  Not just any old cashews...these were COLOSSAL CASHEWS!!!!  They were (too quote Buddy the Elf) GI-NORMOUS!!!!  They looked fabulous...however I have learned that looks can be deceiving and glutenous.

I Googled the brandname and found their 800-number.  Here is how the conversation went...

Customer service:  "Koeze Customer Service.  How may I help you?"

Me:  "I have a jar of colossal cashews and I am wondering if they are gluten-free.  It does not say on the wrapper or on your website."

(Insert pause)

Customer service girl sadly:  "They are not."

Me:  "Talk about break a secretary's heart.  Can you start making them gluten-free? I love cashews!"

Customer service girl:  "I'm not sure.  Have a good day."  (Click.)

The truth of matter is -- I learned the hard way over the summer.  I bought a container of dry roasted almonds from Target.  I thought I was "safe" with almonds, right?  WRONG!!!  The oil they use to dry roast the nuts in oftentimes contains gluten.  My little summer adventure with the wretched gluten monster proved to be all too scary for this girl!!!  I now confirm every-single-thing.  Some people call me "paranoid" ...it's a cross I am willing to bear.  I don't like eating things that make me feel bad.  It's not kind to the body the Lord has given me.  Being exhausted and miserable is no way to live  this fabulous life the Lord has given me.
