First I want to go on record as having said, "I love Saturdays!!!"
My day began with the "Check Engine Light" glaring at me. Oh how I love thee... The fabulous service department at Anderson Toyota was able to finagle me in if I promised to leave Rosie with them for a bit. A quick phone call to Trudy - as I was helping her with centerpieces - insured me transportation from the dealership to Trudy's. And it's not that it would be a loooong walk from the dealership - it's just that I was wearing a cute skirt with sweater tights, my brown boots, and a sweater...and well, you know how the song says, "My boots are made for walking"? I'm not sure my brown boots ARE made for walking.
On the way to Trudy's, I was informed that our centerpiece collaborating would be interrupted by Trudy's new knitting friend. I love how socialable (pretty sure that's a word) Trudy is. She met Carol - the new friend - at a craft show. Trudy was knitting away and Carol approached Trudy and asked for knitting lessons. Trudy agreed. They met at Meg's two days ago. Apparently in the 48-hour since their parting, Carol had stumbled into a knitting conundrum and needed Trudy's help. Trudy graciously invited Carol over and said, "You can meet Angie - another knitter who can even read patterns." (Have I mentioned that I love Trudy?)
Carol arrived. She was frustrated with Trudy's American-style of knitting. American-style is when you knit with both needles in motion. I do not knit this way. I was taught the European way - maneuvering just the right needle and leaving the left one "resting." My knitting teacher said European-style is easier and quicker. (Amen!)
I watched Carol struggle with the American-way before asking if I could show her how I knit. Ok - the poor thing has never had to rip the knitting off the needle and restart... She didn't know what was happening as Trudy removed all the stitches and began un-raveling. Poor beginning knitter Carol. My heart went out to her and before the tears could pool in her eyes, Trudy said something hysterical and we all cracked-up and began again. The joys of knitting with friends...and making new friends.
After a couple of tries, Carol caught on to the ways of the European knitter. She knitted a couple rows and then had to depart with a promise to contact Trudy if she needed an impromptu knitting lesson on Tuesday night - us girls meeting at Meg's.
I'm fairly certain once Carol gets addicted to knitting (Muhahahahahahahahahaha...evil laughter!), we will have formed a small knitting group. A club or a gang of knitters. We will use our forces for good and not evil.
I love spending time with Trudy. She's good for my heart and soul. :)
After Carol departed, Trudy and I went to pick-up Rosie and then met back up at Hobby Lobby. I felt kind of bad just arriving at Hobby Lobby without informing them that we were on our way. Trudy + Angie = danger-danger. We were both slightly hopped-up on coffee and a de-stressing week.
When I arrived at Hobby Lobby, I did not see Trudy so I sent her a text: "Are you here?" She was in the yarn section perusing various textures and colors for another cowl scarf. She's on a roll with those cast on 88 and knit 2 purl 2 scarves. They are addictive. Once you make one, then you start envisioning other scarves and then pretty soon you have 4 Christmas presents made and it's only November 2nd. {Insert happy dance.}
While in Hobby Lobby, we meandered around the store. Our final meandering was through Christmas. At some point in the ornaments, Trudy informed me that she was going to call her husband and ask him to put up their tree. Oh dear...it's November 2nd.
We laughed at the funny ornaments...the blinged-out pig with a tutu, the sparkly t-rex that I purchased for the Ladies Club ornament exchange, etc.
After Hobby Lobby, we parted ways and I made my way to Ulta and Hobby Lobby for a few necessities. It was nice that I did not have to grocery shop today.
Birthday shopping was next on my list. Since I already had an idea of what I needed to get Emma Kate, I made a bee-line to JoAnn's and purchased 2 yards of fabric and some washable pink ribbon. She sweetly asked if I would made her a Hello Kitty pillowcase when she saw her brother's CARS pillowcases. How could I refuse to sew for my favorite almost-six-year-old?
After JoAnn's, I went to Toys R Us. It's not my favorite store. First of all - it's organized by types of toys when all I wanted was to find Hello Kitty stuff - get in and get out. You really can't do that with Hello Kitty stuff as it was strewn-about the store. I managed to find some Hello Kitty paraphernalia in the art section... Emma Kate will be the proud owner of a Hello Kitty clicky pen. Who does not love clicky-color-changing-inkpens? I heart them. I, also, found other Hello Kitty items. I'm not sure which ones I will save for Christmas...but I have a supply now.
I really do love making things for Emma. She loves handmade gifts. One year I gave her something bought from a store and she asked me, "Fun Angie, how did you make this?" Ooooh - oops. I explained that I didn't make it...that I found it at a store.
My favorite EK story told me by her mom....Emma was walking away from her mom, she stopped and turned back with a little smirk, she said, "I love it when Fun Angie calls me 'Fabulous'!!!" I love that girl.
