Today was the big brake day.
When I go to schedule Rosie's appointments, my only options are:
1. Drop Rosie off at 7:00 a.m. and get shuttled to work
or
2. Use a few hours of vacation and wait while Rosie gets worked on.
Since brakes take almost 2 hours, I opted for the 7 a.m. drop off. Plus I really didn't think I would be able to be away from the office that long today as tomorrow I am going to Rescue Mission shopping for our employee Christmas project.
Grant, the shuttler, delivered me to my place of employment in record time. Mulford is such a lovely road to travel at 7:10 a.m. We encountered minimal traffic and the roads were lovely as the windblown snow had been plowed.
Rosie needed new front brakes and rotars. She also got her back brakes cleaned which I am sure has to feel good. Since they were checking out her underside, they said for $4 per clip, they would replace Rosie's missing 3 clips. Where did those clips go? Perhaps those clips are like Bobby pins. Where do Bobby pins end up? There must be some magical place with millions of Bobby pins. It's probably next to Missing Sock Avenue.
As the day progressed, I waited to find out if Rosie was done. No call.
We had our department Christmas lunch-out. That event came and went. No call.
Finally at 2 p.m., I called. Rosie was done and Grant, the shuttler, was able to come and fetch me.
I love the service guys. They are always very friendly and helpful. I appreciate so very much that they do not talk down to me.
When I went to the cashier station, the gal handed me Rosie's paperwork and keys and said, "You're all set!"
"No, I still have to pay," reaching for my wallet.
She, then, proceeded to tell me that Santa had paid my bill.
"Santa? Santa Clause?" I questioned.
"Yes, Santa."
I stood there shocked with tears streaming down my face. I remember saying, "I don't understand. Who would pay my bill? Santa?"
The cashier came around the counter, hugged me and said, "You're going to make me cry. Yes, Santa paid your bill. Merry Christmas, Angie!"
Even now...it's been almost 5 hours later, I'm still amazed and thankful and totally in awe that the Lord would put this on someone's heart. He impressed someone to pay my bill. He choose this very thing to bless me with on this very day.
I do not know who Santa is. Well, I mean, I KNOW HIM!!!!! But whoever this "Santa" is - thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have been a huge blessing to me.

Autozone
Yesterday my co-worker pointed out that I had a headlight out. Since I was going to skip the gym and enjoy a lazy Thursday evening at home, I completely forgot about the headlight.
Today I needed to help out my friends and play chauffeur so fixing the lightbulb was no longer a forgettable situation.
I have only had these fancy-schmancy light bulbs since Thanksgiving which makes me question if the top of the line were better than the average ho-hum ones. Hmmmm....
Since I had purchased the fancy ones at an AutoZone in Indianapolis, I figured I would stop at the local AutoZone and see if they would equally as helpful as the Indy folks.
My tech's name was Matthew. Very helpful chap!!!
He walked out to Rosie and waited while I popped the hood. He kept trying to open the hood and finally said, "Check to see if you popped the trunk." I had. He, then, went on to say how he had done the very same thing.....and I totally flashbacks to me standing in the big guy's office telling him, "It's ok if you put down the wrong date. I do it all the time." I was suddenly realizing how comforting it is to know that I am not alone in my space cadet-ish tendencies.
After pulling the hood release, I said to Matt, "Ok. You can lift the lid!" I can only imagine what he told his co-workers.

Confession
Every Sunday the backseat of my car is clean and spotless...and by Saturday, it looks like my gym bag got into a fight with my gym clothes. My gym clothes always appear victorious!!!

The Friday Night Flat Tire
On Friday, Rosie delivered me to work and while I was inside being courteous, kind, and helpful, Rosie's rear passenger-side tire was leaking air at a rapid rate. I imagine the voice of the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz, "I'm melting!" although instead of melting the "Tire Witch" said, "I'm leaking!" {That voice always gives me the willies. You are a bad witch. Water kills you. Does she not bathe? EVER? How does that work? I digress.}
As I left work, I walked around to the passenger side and noticed the extremely flat tire. Flat as in pan (insert smallish pause for effect) cake flat. The summer intern who parked his car next to mine said, "Whoa - you've got a flat!" Yep!
I walked back towards the admin building hoping against hope that there would be an air compressor to atleast give me enough air to get to the gas station to get more air and then allow me to make it to the tire place. On the way to the building, my supervisor was leaving the office and he said, "You're going the wrong way!" Too which I replied, "I know. Is there an air compressor inside the garage?" He didn't believe so. While we were standing there, my favorite co-worker attempted to zoom by on his bike. He thought my waving was to say goodbye...until I hollered his name. The hollering might've been unnecessary but if anyone was to have the answer to my Is there an air compressor? question, it would be my favorite co-worker who is a wealth of information.
He confirmed a big, fat negative to the air compressor and then he took over the situation.
Summer intern and my favorite co-worker set about finding the jack and the spare. My supervisor cracked me up with other car/tire stories. I was informed my role was the damsel in distress and that I was, friends.
At 4:35, the jokester of our department was leaving. He came out and stood watching the tire swap. Being funny and all, he said to the diligent tire changers, "Hey guys! This is like the pits at Nascar!!! I'm going to start the clock! Go! Go! GO!"
2 minutes and 25 seconds later - why is it that men make a competition out of everything? I mean, I know some gals who do this too - but seriously, it was just a spare tire. Of course, maybe they had a hot dinner waiting for them. Me - I had a trip to the gym, Woodmans, and the cat. I love my simple life.
I thanked the cast of characters and headed off to the tire place. On my way, I thought it would be nice if I gave the tire guys a call and told them I was coming in - and I wanted to confirm that they were still there.
Ring, ring. The tire dude picked up and I told him my issue. His reply, "Well, if the low pressure light is on, we'll check your tire pressure for you." I replied to his oh-you're-a-girl-and-don't-know-about-your-car with, "Wow - thanks...but the tire is FLAT. It's in my trunk. I'm driving on the spare. I'll be there in 5 minutes." Some days it's not worth being a smarty-skirt. I let it go. Yes, I will be the little woman on the phone who panics when she sees the low tire pressure light.
After 30 minutes, I was informed I will be getting a brand new tire on Monday and yes, there was a situation with the side wall of my tire. Because I bought the warranty, I only have to pay the tire disposal and the add-the-new-tire-to-your-rim fee. I was warned to not take any lengthy trips this weekend (which seemed to be commonsense-ish but I let that go and smiled prettily).
The end.

The rest of Rosie's tire story...
[I know the 39 is an exaggeration as I just checked all 4 tires on Sunday afternoon...unless of course, air expands when it's cold. Hahahahahaha! NOT!]
I sweetly inquired of the tire dude, "Which tire was at 30?"
T.D.: "The right rear."
Me: "Funny because that's one YOU guys switched on Saturday. Also Toyota informed me my tire pressure should be 36."
T.D.: "Well, uh...."
Me: "I don't think the makers of my car would lie."
T.D.: "Our computer says it should be 30..."
The more I thought about it --- DUH --- of course their "computers" say that because HELLO -- I WILL NEED TIRES SOONER IF I DO NOT KEEP THEM INFLATED PROPERLY.
Nice try, tire place. This girl wasn't born yesterday!!!
P.S. I intend to email the makers of my new tires and inquire directly from the source what the proper tire pressure is. Oh, I may make a copy of their email reply to keep in my glove box.

Low Tire Pressure Light
8 a.m. - went to Toyota for my scheduled oil change. Informed the little car dude about the tire pressure light. He promised to check it out.
8:40 - Service guy came and told me that I need to replace the bad tire. The puncture hole was close to the wall and they could not plug it. At the dealership, I had 3 tire options. He then presented me with 6 pages of paper - 2 pages per tire option. I haven't read any tire reviews because Rosie only has 45,000 miles on her current tires. I asked the service dude if he minded if I contacted my co-worker and got his opinion. No biggee. Service dude returned to the desk and left me with the sheets of paper.
In the meantime, someone overheard the tire conundrum and mentioned that I shouldn't purchase tires from the dealership as they are kind of crummy and I could get better tires elsewhere. My co-worker agreed. So I asked the service dude to put my tire back on Rosie, filler-'er-up with air and send me on my merry way.
I checked out www.tirerack.com for the best all-season tire for Rosie.
I contacted my co-worker's favorite tire establishment. They had the tire I wanted and were open 'til 6. Great news!
Met Patty for coffee and a trip to a new-to-us consignment store in Roscoe.
Coffee consumed. Consignments perused. Cute $4 taupe scarf purchased. I'm fairly certain the scarf I bought could be knitted but it's a whirly scarf and I believe I've read instructions to make one of these...and the instructions hurt my brain. Plus $4 wouldn't cover the cost of the yarn. :) And my time is worth a pretty penny. (Laughed the girl with curly hair!)
Early afternoon, I ventured to the tire place.
Do you know that I hate being a girl with car issues??? Boys don't understand this AT ALL. Period. AT ALL. First of all, let's talk about the tire dude...
He goes to his handy-dandy computer and wouldn't you know (she says mockingly), they do not have the Bridgestone tire I want/need in stock. Funny, because it was there earlier today -- they must've had a huge rush for my particular vehicle's tire size but he did however locate a tire and It's an hour away. And I will tell you -- the hour away comment was a direct quote from said tire dude.
He continues to click away on his computer. (At this point, because it's taking some time....like 6-7 minutes...is he playing Solitaire? And if so, please tell me that he's winning!!!)
He, then, asks if I mind waiting while he calls about the tire. "No problem. Go right ahead."
He spews forth a bunch of numbers and then says, "I hate when they put me on hold." I'm thinking "on hold" means oh-back-to-Solitaire!
Several minutes later [the History channel was on and it played through one segment commercial to commercial. Crazy!], he hangs up the phone and confirms with me they have the tire but it is AN HOUR AWAY.
Tire dude: "Do you want me to have someone go and pick it up?"
Me: "Yes."
Tire dude: "Let me make a quick phone call." (I don't trust his definition of quick but I concede.)
Tire dude: "Hey. Can you run to Alpine and pick up a tire?"
Ummmmmmmmm.....last time I checked Alpine was not an hour away unless you are biking there and/or traveling by CAMEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow -- I know that I am naive about some things...but to stand there and ask the courier/tire runner if he would go to Alpine to pick up my tire? May 11th. I was born May 11th several years ago. NOT FEBRUARY 1, 2013.
I wish the story ended there. It doesn't. Oh no friends...
As I am driving down Spring Creek -- because after the tire stop, I had to go Woodman's and pick up broccoli, mayo, and other items to make a gluten-free salad for tomorrow's potluck, wouldn't you know -- my low tire pressure light came back on...
I'm thinking one of three things happened...
1. The Toyota service guy was not pleased that I was taking my tire business elsewhere so they rotated the tires AFTER telling me which one was the issue.
2. It could be the tire pressure computer sensor in spate in the trunk. Maybe that sensor is going bad and it's coincidental that the light came on after all this...
3. The tire dude did not re-set and check the sensor inside my new tire.
I will begin my quest for answers Monday morning at 7 a.m. when I show up bright and early at Toyota on E. Riverside. And I'm going to bribe my favorite co-worker with Starbucks and ask him to come to my aid.
The end.
It's not technically the end. It's the beginning of the end. The not-quite end end.

Low Tire Pressure Light....Part 4
Service dude: "Hi. What can we do for you?"
Me (in my best second grade teacher tone): "Well, you see last Tuesday, my low tire pressure light came on. I figured it was because the drastic drop in temperature. I stopped and filled up my tire. Thirty-six hours later, the light came back on and the tire only had twenty pounds of air. It lost 15 pounds in 36 hours. I brought my car in here on Friday. You kindly refilled the air in my tire and claimed it was the spare tire's sensor. Funny (sarcastically said), but on Saturday evening, the low tire pressure light came back on. No worries though -- I had a lovely chat with your service manager Mark on Friday afternoon who promised me that this will get properly taken care of today. Here's the keys. Ooooh and I need a ride to work. Thank you."
It's funny...not in a ha-ha sort-of way...I received this phone call at 12 'noon.
Mark, service manager: "Angie, your car is ready."
Angie: "What was really the problem?"
Mark: "You had driven over a nail and punctured your tire."
Angie: "So it wasn't my spare afterall. Thanks. I'll be there around 5 to get my car."
Wow -- I wonder if they noted on my file that...
A. I know how to use a tire pressure gauge.
B. I read the manual so don't be trying to pull the wool over my pretty green eyes.
C. I don't appreciate being lied too.

Low Air Pressure Light.....part 3
A - I'm not much of a morning person until after a warm cup of coffee and a warm shower.
B - Landing in a snowdrift in my jammies...brrrrrrrr...
C - Running? Are you kidding me? I'm not a fan of running although, I suppose, in order to get warm, I might be tempted to run.
So this morning, I started Rosie allowing her sufficient time to warm- up and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW -- the low tire pressure light came on AGAIN. Funny (sarcasm noted) how she was just at the dealer yesterday and if you remember correctly, the light was coming on because the spare tire sensor was bad.
I found it interesting that front passenger-side tire was kind of squishy. Now - CONFESSION - I did not check the spare time IN THE TRUNK to see if it was squishy feeling also. :)
After beginning my commute to work, I had a lovely chat with the Service Manager, Mark. I informed him of the initial phone call and Kyle's suggestion of adding air and also using a tire gauge. Both of which, Mark now knows, I am well aware of their uses...and also, I did not appreciate the you-are-a-woman-and-don't-have-a-clue-about-cars. I will stop right here and interject that one time I did refer to the hood as a "lid" -- which probably displayed my true girlie-girl spirit.
The story ends -- Monday morning Rosie is to report to the dealer at 7 a.m. and I was assured that she will be taken care of. Let's hope and pray that this is the case. :)

Low Air Pressure Light....part 2
While I was explaining the issue, the man behind the counter appeared to be listening AND comprehending. He replied, "Go have a seat in the waiting area and we will check this out."
Angie: "I have to be to work at 8. Will you be done with plenty of time for me to leave?"
Guy: "Sure. Give us 10 minutes."
Wow -- 10 minutes! I thought.
True to his word -- ten minutes later, he walks out to the waiting area and informed me, "Your tire pressure was low." IN MY HEAD, "DUUUUUH!" I just smiled and nodded.
He continues, "Your pressure was not 35 and your spare had low tire pressure."
Angie: "My spare isn't on the car."
Guy: "Oh, I know. It's in the trunk. It has a senser inside of it."
For real? Are you serious that the problem is my spare which is inside my trunk????
Angie: "Okay. If you say it's fixed, then it's fixed. Thank you."
Guy: "Yep! Have a great Friday!"
When I got to work, I was sharing with the guys about what happened...I don't really appreciate being treated like a space cadet because I am girl. Could it really be that my spare was low????? It seems hokie....and let's focus on the fact that the passenger-side tire had 10 pounds of air last week....it was refilled...and then two days later, it was low again.
I have a very bad feeling that this saga is going to continue...and here's the truth -- if my low pressure light comes on again, I will asking the men in my life to come with me to the dealership. Men don't understand how un-nerving it is to be treated like you don't have a clue because you are a girl. It's awful!!!

Low Tire Pressure Light
As Angie ended the call, she remained calm and said outloud, "The problem is Kyle has dealt with ditzy girls who don't know any better. He can't help it if he thinks all women are space cadets." And then Angie replayed the conversation in her brain -- only the second time around, she gave herself a sarcastic tone. It was much funnier. :)

The morning of the 5th day of December...
After leaving a smidge bit late, I was approximately one mile from the cottage when I realized I had forgotten to grab my boring, plain Jane, soy milk coffee creamer. It is slightly sweetened...and when I say "slightly"...trust me -- I mean SLIGHTLY! It's good. I'm not complaining. I'm just letting you know what I normally put in my coffee. French Vanilla slightly sweetened soy creamer.
Grabbed my lunchbag but forgot the container of soy creamer. Two words popped in my head: "DANGER! DANGER!" I had a split second decision to make...not sure if I should turn around and head back to the cottage...or take a chance and grab another container near work. Surely Hilander/Logli would still carry my creamer, right?
8 minutes before I must be scanned in...I race into Hilander/Logli...go directly to the section where soy creamer formerly was located...except there was no creamer. Time was ticking. (Insert Jaws theme!) I found a kid working in produce and asked him. His reply, "I don't know...if we have it, it will be with the milk."
Race to the dairy. No creamer! (GASP!) What'a a girl to do. It's Monday...and no coffee creamer!!! And let's be honest, it's going to take me more than 7 minutes to travel clear across town to Starbucks...so I was stuck!
I looked to the right. Looked to the left. Made a made dash for the regular coffee creamer. Pulled out a small bottle of Peppermint Mocha. After regaining my sanity, I put back the small bottle and grabbed the large one. DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES!!!!
Here's what I figured out while racing to the U-Scan (which was closed. Of course!): It's Christmas. One Peppermint Mocha at Starbucks would cost me more than this HUGE, GI-NORMOUS bottle of creamer. 'Tis the Season!!! And I laughed as I paid the clerk and ran to Rosie.
My heart was pounding as I drove to work. I got to the light where I can see my office building. I glanced at the clock. 4 minutes. I prayed (VERBATIM), "Lord, I am about to do something totally stupid; please protect me!" I zipped into the right turn lane and then I made a quick U-turn and headed up the driveway to the office, all the while thinking, That was totally AS SEEN ON TV...The Dukes of Hazard!!!! Nice Angie Good. Really nice. Drive like a maniac but first you pray for your stupid maneuver.
Thankfully the Lord did not allow any traffic from either direction. I managed to get in to the building to the time clock with 2 minutes to spare. My heart was still racing. And all the while I was thinking, This is why I hate being hurried when I come to work in the morning!!! Two cups of coffee later and a break reading through Psalms and everything was turned a-right. Wow -- what a crazy morning!!!
Oooh did you read the other day that I somehow got way ahead of schedule in my travels through Psalms. No worries...I went back and re-read from 119 on...so I am back on schedule. Not that I suppose it mattered other than to me and my marked-up calendar. I was getting confused trying to remember just how far ahead I was. Psalms are such a comfort to my weary heart.
This week (and I do realize it's only Monday) has been very unusual. I have two situations (potentially a third if I really stop and analyze it, which I have no plans of doing) happening and I am not sure what is going to be the outcome. I know that the Lord knows...I am trusting Him and guarding my heart. That's all I will say for now...
I hope your 5th day of December was delightful.

Another doe. As in "doe, a deer, a female deer"...
Well, after a terrible day at work today (and it wasn't truly terrible, it was just really rough and full of all kinds of CRRRRRRR-AZINESS)...I popped in the soundtrack because I was thinking to myself, What would cheer me up? Perhaps singing along with Julie Andrews about my favorite things....well, maybe I will start with "Do, Re, Mi..." Surely that will brighten my day.
So I found that the CD was in slot #3. The song started and I said outloud (I LITERALLY SAID THIS OUTLOUD!!!!!!!!!), "Lord, are you going to send another deer?" 0.3 seconds later, I glanced to the right side of the road. YOU GUESSED IT....Doe, a deer, a female deer. She was super cute with white spots. I needed a good laugh and apparently the Lord saw fit to send it in the form of wildlife. :) I'm soo thankful for His blessings at the end of loooooong days. And I am praying that He never sees fit to send me...
A) Possums
B) Snakes
C) Lizards
D) Grasshoppers and/or locusts
E) Bats
F) Red-winged blackbirds
He could, however, send a cute calf. I know this is going to sound totally absurd to you, but since this is my blog and you are stalking ME...well, I would kind of like a calf. Now I know that it's going to grow up and be a huge cow...but calves are just delightful!!! I love it when they want to suck on your fingers. And their noses are soft and pink. Oh - and something else I would love...little chicks. I'm aware that having chickens requires work and they are stinky and messy. When I was a kid, our neighbors had chickens and several times I was called upon to go gather the eggs. I remember being terrified of pulling the warm eggs out from under the chickens. Chicks and calves....hmmmm...I'd also kind of like a huge garden. I realize that if I did up and move to a farm that I would more than likely have to turn in my Engineering Secretary hat and done a cute straw hat and a gingham sundress...which I could totally pull off. I love the country, don't you? I mean - you can drive 45 miles per hour and not be caught up in the rat-race of city life. You can walk through the grass barefoot (well, watch out for those snakes!) and just enjoy being. You see, you can take the girl out of the country....but, my friends, you cannot take the country out of the girl. Oh my -- where was I?
Once I arrived at home, I sent off a cheery text informing my friend of what had happened AGAIN. She had a novel idea...why not listen to the Music Man...too which I counter-offered, Fiddler on the Roof. "Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match..." I shall get the soundtrack from the bibliotecca tomorrow. I love Fiddler on the Roof. Did you know that the very first time I had ever seen that musical was 4 years ago with my dear friend, Trudy? How is it that I was an adult before I had ever seen it? It all goes back to the post where I confessed (and now you know it to be 100% true), I don't get out much. :)
Tootles.

ATBAB2
Today I said something quite profound while standing in the church parking lot. My circle of friends stood there amazed and dumbfounded. Too me - it was common knowledge so I thought nothing of blurting out my bit o' information. Before you come to the conclusion that (GASP!) Angie Good was gossiping...I wasn't! We were talking about locking your keys in the car...to which I announced, "If you had AAA, you could've just called the 800-number on the back of the card and they would dispatch a tow truck to come unlock your vehicle."
Listener S said, "No way. They do that? I have AAA."
I replied, "Ummm yes. They count it as a 'tow' but yes - they will unlock your car. You should get atleast 5 tows per year. Seriously."
Listener G replied, "You amaze me, Angie Good!"
Too which I replied, "I know, I know...all this beauty and brains too!"
Listener R said, "I knew it! I knew you were going to say that! You're fabulous, Angie Good!"
I'm not exactly sure when this whole ATBAB2 thing started....I believe it was two years ago when we joined the gym. Rhonda and I would work-out and I will give her a plethora of facts...mostly random...but facts nonetheless. CONFESSION: If you go to my work computer and you click on the Internet and go to my Favorites, you will see that I have a website there labeled as "Useless Information." I found a website with 100+ bits of useless information. For example -- In the state of Utah, birds have the right-of-way. That's very weird to me. Thankfully I do not reside there...because let me just say, I like to try to aim at the geese in the road....not soo much with my Corolla, but when I owned Ruby and even the Pickle - I would try to send them to the "big pond in the sky"!!!!
