My week in a nutshell.

Dept email:  "The printer repair man will be here to fix the machine.  Choose another machine."

My faves replied:  " 'Printer Repair Men' sounds like a Pacific Northwestern garage rock band."

Me:  "I bet they really can jam."

--------------------------------

Same day an hour or so later...
Me *replies to the above faves*  "I bought Reese's peanut butter eggs cause you guys are EGG-cellent."

--------------------------------
Today to my favorite contractor:  "Happy Friiiiiiiiiiiday!!!  Friday is like a superhero that swooped in to save the day!  <-- Wait, Friday saved the week."

One half of contractor duo, "You are hilarious, Angie. How do you do it?"

Me:  "Equal amounts of coffee, vitamin D, and ridiculousness."

---------------------------------

And I ended the week with that voice, "It's ok that you couldn't help this person.  It's ok.  I will get a form filled out for you."

---------------------------------
It should be NOTED that the more stressed the Engineering Secretary gets - the more humor just bubbles out of her.  Most people get mad when they are stressed, not our superhero office ninja.  She just laughs and notes the absurdity.

I don't always identify with a movie character.

Never in all of my crazy dreams (more on that is a second), did I ever think that I, Angie Good, would identify with a talking tree.

Yep.  That's me.  The girl whose stressful day made her feel very Groot-ish.

Who's Groot?  He is the talking tree on "Guardians of the Galaxy."

In the first movie, he saves his friends.  (That would be a spoiler and I'm a little sorry.)  Anyway...Groot "dies" but really his big-tree-self perishes while a small shoot of him lives.

The talking raccoon re-pots Groot (where does Rocket, the raccoon, even get a pot?).  Rocket, then, carries Groot in to the sequel.

In the sequel, there's an intense scene and Chris Pratt's character shouts, "Buckle-up Groot!!!" and then next scene is Groot sitting in his seat snacking his stress away.  Does a baby tree shoot have stress?  Not on this planet...but being shot at while on another planet, I suppose that is stressful.

Today at work, yours truly forgot that a spreadsheet was due.  Not forgot-forgot.  Just sort of forgot until 11 a.m.

As I sat re-reading the spreadsheet entries (I double-  and triple-check things...kinda my tragic flaw), I munched on a bag of raw veggies.  Carrots and yellow pepper and celery.  Mmmmm...  While I was stress-snacking, I said to myself, "I am Groot."  It was at this point that I remembered the below pictured scene and I laughed and laughed.

Funny that my coworkers stayed away today...probably all the veggie-crunching and nervous laughter.

P.S. The crazy dreams I have...
1. me accidentally eating gluten and getting sick
2. me drinking diet pop
3. me wearing pajamas while lost in the city
4. me stuck at work for the weekend withonly bagels for nourishment
True story.

While other people are dreaming about getting chased by Big Foot, yours truly is having food nightmares.

This memories thing on FB.

This popped up in my on this day memory on Facebook.

(I am sitting staring at my what-would-appear blank Microsoft Word document.)

My co-worker:  "What are you working on?"

Me:  "Oh, you know, waiting for ' The Nightmare ' to open."

Co-worker:  "Seriously - what are you working on?"

*File opens on my screen.*

Me:  "See that!?" *Points to file name:  "The Nightmare"

Co-worker:  "You are my favorite!!!"

Carrying the torch in 2020...

For my entire career as Engineering Secretary Extraordinaire, something peculiar happens from circa 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.  I laugh.  Most days it's a smallish laugh...like something will tickle my funny bone.  Some days I laugh outloud for nearly the whole hour.

I'm not sure why this happens.  It just happens.  An unexplainable phenomena.  Monday through Friday.

Today I had an episode.

As you know the Olympics are scheduled to begin in Rio starting on August 5th...which just so happens to be in 4 days!!!! * Humming the Olympics theme *

Today - since I had Olympics brain - I started contemplating what it would take to train to carry the torch in 2020.

It's so weird that in 4 years, it will be 2020.  Twenty-twenty!!!  It's just craziness.  I mean that's totally visionally acceptable and the goal when I get fitted for contacts...but to say that the date will be 2020 seems unbelievable!!!

Ok - so about this Olympic training...

I figure with enough hours at the gym with DeDe, surely I could attain torch-bearing status...but would I want to carry it alone?  I mean what if I carried it for some distance and I were to run past a gigantic Goodwill in a hipster neighborhood?  Could I just keep running and not stop to thrift?  Or what if I passed a cool coffeeshop and coffee sounded good?  Can you take a torch inside a coffeeshop?  I feel like if I were to do this that coffeeshops and thrifts would soon have "Anti-torch" signs on their doors...and I would be the reason behind said signs.

Around 2:10, I determined I should bring a friend or two.  The first two to pop into my silly pipe-dream thought were Sara and Lori.  Yes, they would totally hold the torch while I thrifted and/or ordered us coffees as I would hold the torch from them.

Then I got to thinking...do all torch-bearers run because I don't run with an open flame!  {Those last 4 words were unnecessary.}

Do you begin training for the torch carrying by walking around super fast with unlit taper candles...and then upgrade to lit tapers...and finally some type of smallish torch device?

Is power walking with the torch acceptable?

Could I rent a scooter and scooter with the torch?  Scooter speed does not strike me as blazing!  Blazing -- hahahahahahaha - like a flame!!!!  Blazing!!!!  I wasn't even trying to be funny!!!!!!  But seriously - are scooters able to achieve a speed that would blow out a torch?  It seems like the power of the torch's flame would prevail!

I have friends who will power walk and/or scooter with me so I'm hoping that's a real thing.

Better yet - could we just transport the torch in Rosie?  Not in-in Rosie...as she has fabric-covered seats and fabric on the roof.  It seems like that might be dangerous to have an open flame.

Tonight before VBS crafts, I was telling Rhonda about my torch-bearing thoughts.  She volunteered to help us carry the torch.  She said when we thrift, we could get some type of tiki torch holder or a garden gnome to hold the torch while we search the racks for Anne Taylor.  Genius!!!!  I was thinking we could take the garden gnome to the next level by taking a pottery class and painting his tracksuit GO TEAM USA colors.  It seems American.

Yes...I solemnly swear that these were my random torch-carrying thoughts.  Said thoughts lasted from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

My poor new co-worker and new boss have only known me as glutened-Angie.  Glutened-Angie is quiet and miserable feeling.  Glutened-Angie has limited random thoughts between waves of brain fog.  Glutened-Angie does not laugh between 2 and 3 p.m.  Glutened-Angie is sad.

I'm pretty sure they are not sure what to do with me...especially today.  Tomorrow I need to 'xplain about 2 p.m. and apologize profusely.

It was more than....

...finding a cute polkadot top to complete an outfit.

...joking about matching Vera Bradley button-up Oxfords.

...creating a character sketch of the secret life of Doris.

Last night's thrift adventure was about iron - sharpening with copious amounts of laughter and God's - doing - this - in - my - life moments.

And THAT is what I prayed it would be!!!

In the movie The Santa Clause 2

Have you ever had one of THOSE weeks???  Originally it started off with one of THOSE Mondays...followed by A Tuesday...and Wednesday which found me eating a Coconut Bliss Dark Chocolate ice cream bar for supper...and then a Thursday with an answer to prayer...and lastly it's today. Friday.  Finally sweet, dear, kind Friday.

Tonight I met Trudy at the Episcopal church to peruse their indoor garage sale.

It was apparent from the moment Trudy and I met in the parking lot that we were going to spend a good portion of the evening laughing.   Garage sale shenanigans coupled with coffee shenanigans.  It's beautiful.  It's dangerous.

The good news is we have a new friend from the Episcopal church garage sale.  And I am fairly certain we scared the cashier at the church across the street.  Maybe scare is too strong of a word.  We concerned her when we could not quit laughing like 7th grade girls at midnight at a sleepover.

At the second church garage sale, it all started when Trudy got out of control during a rant about how much she despises Vicks.

Tim Allen does a bang-up job playing Santa Claus in the Disney Santa Claus trilogy.
The second movie is my favorite.

Santa gets cloned.  The clone is hysterical.

The clone drinks a gallon of hot chocolate and then gets kinda loud when he claims how much he LOVES the rules in the guide to being Santa.

Trudy was like Santa Claus when she exclaimed, "Eucalyptus?  GROSS!!!!" And that is when I completely laughed outloud and really couldn't stop because whenever there was a lull in our conversation, I could almost hear Santa claiming, "I read the entire rule book.  Could've been the gallon of hot chocolate I drank.  I LOVE COCOA!!!!  WHEW!!!!!"

The Angie Good School of Cooking

Until the end of tax season, I have volunteered to watch my friend's 14-, 10- and 5-year old.  Last week was my first Thurs night.  For supper, I made them Velveeta Mac-n-cheese.  As I made their supper, I said to the older kids, "Welcome to the Angie Good School of Cooking!"  {These kids were soo easy to impress.  They ranked me right up there w/the likes of foodie genius worldwide.}

Last night while making them Hamburger Helper, the 10-year old noticed that my scarf was getting dangerously close to their gas stove burner.  He turned and said to me, "Let me have your scarf.  We don't want to have a fire at the Angie Good School of Cooking!"

No Lake Geneva trip...

As I awoke from my slumber this morning, I discovered that the little weatherman was right.  DRAT!  The 50% chance of rain was 100% accurate this morning.  Rainy and drizzly all morning put the kabotch-keys to my fun day at the lake.  I must confess this broke my little vacationing heart because I have tried for 2 days to get to the lake...and both days have been rainy and chilly.  *Sigh*  I'm not complaining about the weather because I remember January!!!  And let's face it, I prefer "chilly" to humid.

In lieu of going to the lake, I poured myself a second and third (please don't judge!) cup of coffee.  I topped off my mug with French Vanilla Coconut Milk Coffee Creamer.

You see, I had 2 big projects on my vacation to do list.  I actually set the bar kind of low because I usually set a goal-per-day.

My bar setting low projects were...
Clean out Rosie.  My car gets neglected.  I'm not even going to try to sugar coat this and label my sweet Rosie as "lived in" - A) I do not live in her and B) she's just a hot mess.  And it's not like I'm driving the FILTH-MOBILE...but she was in need of some interior loving.  I grabbed my Mrs. Meyers' Clean Day Lilac cleaning spray, a roll of paper towel, and a bottle of glass cleaner and set off to cleaning out Rosie.  Thirty minutes later, she looked & smelled fantastic.

My 2nd project took some time.  I went through and tried on every single skirt and dress in my closet.  I had read a PIN that said, "Take all the garments out of your closet.  If you do not love the article of clothing, donate it!  If you would not purchase the article of clothing, donate it!"  These two tips helped me purge several items.  I ended up cleaning out and donating 24 tops / sweaters, 18 skirts, 6 dresses, 2 pairs of capris, 3 pairs of pants, 3 pairs of shoes, and 2 jacket / coats.  I piled all the items in a large laundry basket and donated them to the soon-to-be-opened Salvation Army Store by Cherryvale Mall.  I had considered pricing all these items and placing them in Trudy's garage sale, but I wanted them out of my apartment TODAY!!!!

While I was working on these two projects, I patiently awaited word if my lake-going friend was feeling better and able to go on an adventure with me.  After finishing these projects and getting groceries, she informed me that she still wasn't feeling so hot and an adventure was not to be had.

Too say I'm bummed might be an understatement as this particular friend is going to be moving to Montana next Saturday.  Our shenanigan moments are numbered...and the clock is tick-tick-ticking by quickly.  I'm hoping we are able to do something fabulous this upcoming week before we are forced to part ways.

Last night - I digress - we went to the Rockford City Market where we did enjoy white chocolate mochas.  Regular white chocolate mochas at 7 p.m.  As the Javamania guy was making our drinks, I said to the other mocha-consumer (Rhonda), "You do realize we did NOT say decaf?"  Our other 2 com padres nervous laughed.  They know.  They know that the SHOW is about to begin.  The rest of the market goers should've been equally nervous and full of that scared kind of laughter...you know what I'm talking about, right?  The laughter that bubbles up when you aren't sure if you should be delighted or slightly fearful.

After mochas - which shout out to Javamania, they were DEEEELISH and totally gluten-free - we used my handy-dandy Find Me Gluten-Free app to discover that a cute little Italian place downtown, Capris, has gluten-free options.  {Just a note - Italian places with gluten-free items do make my little heart go pitter-patter...in a nervous sort of way...just think...someone mixes us and gives us gluten.  For those of you who don't know -- it causes my body to pretty much stop functioning and I spend days - yes, DAYS, in bed unable to function.  It ain't pretty.  At the very least, it gives me a migraine.  Ick!}  Capris was amazing.  Our host was super cute and we made his night when we told him he looked like some famous dude from some famous show - which I don't watch but the other gals are fans. He said, "I've been told I look like that guy but no one has ever asked for my picture."

We ate way too much and we laughed way too loudly.  This just means that our evening at Capris was amazing and our time was spent in good company.

We, then, attempted to go to the movie in the park which we realized had been moved from the park to the MetroCenter.  {I refuse to call it by its new name.  Same with the Sears Tower. I'm not calling it by its new name.}  Due to the Capris restaurant shenanigans, we were 45 minutes late to the movie so we skipped heading to the MetroCenter and went to a Walgreens' Red Box and rented the movie, Big Hero 6.  What a cute movie.

The movie ended at circa midnight and we parted ways.  The girls were nervous about sending me out on to the roads after the mocha-at-7 consumption...but I'm happy to say I arrived at home and was able to fall asleep at 1ish.  Not too bad for drinking a large mocha at 7 p.m.  I half-expected to be up until sunrise.  {I don't drink regular coffee or anything caffeinated after 12'noon.  It's my personal policy.  It's for the best.  I've seen me hopped up on an accidental caffeination.  It's not pretty.  It's funny for the other people in my party...but for me, it's not soo much fun.}

Soooo back to my no lake subject...It's ok that I did not manage to get to Lake Geneva this week.  Even after I deduct my 40 hours of vacation time, I will still be left with nearly 3 days of vacation.  There's always time for a mental health Lake Geneva trip between now and September.

Tootles!!!

Gatekeeper

Rhonda and I have been friends for 6 years.  We both love Jesus and working-out.  We like thrifting.  We are both secretaries.

For years, we have called ourselves "The Gatekeepers."  It's what we do.  We guard our "departments" by keeping out the crazies.

During our Marvel superhero movie sleepover, we saw an actual gatekeeper on Thor.  Rhonda turned me and said...WAIT!  You should know that it was circa midnight...  Rhonda turns to me and said, "THAT is a gatekeeper."

Me:  "We are gatekeepers."

Rhonda:  "The more I think about it - that guy's hat is a little heavy in the neck.  We are going to need lighter gatekeeper head-wear."

This whole discussion was followed with copious amounts of laughter.

I DID THIS WITHOUT A TUTORIAL!!!!!!!!

Laughing fits and such...

I have a problem.  I cannot stop laughing.  It all started on Sunday, May 25th.  I was sitting in the choir loft observing my church family.  I love being in church choir – not because I am any good, because I am not…but because it’s a joyful noise that we are commanded to make…and let’s be serious – the altos are the most joyful of the choir parts.

Anyway…this whole laughing / smiling conundrum…  It gets worse the more stressed I get.  First of all – on Sunday, it was a nervous laughter bubbling in my tummy.  Thankfully I was able to give myself a pep talk similar to “Angie Good, nobody wants to see you crack-up here in the choir loft!  Pull yourself together.”

Monday was a day off…and I spent it sewing and running various errands.  Much laughter was observed on that day.

Tuesday…not too much stress but a whole lotta smiling.

Wednesday…the same as Tuesday.  Except that on this night, I ran to Trudy’s before church…and we had to hot glue a candle to the bottom of a glass vase…and I could not stop laughing.  Poor Trudy…we were trying to figure out ways to get the candle to stand upright which only added to my fits of laughter.  In one such laughing attack, I tried explaining how we could find someone who drinks a lot of pop (2 liters) and cut the tops of the bottles and use the hole to support the candle upright.  Trudy spent a good part of 10 minutes trying to make out what I was saying inbetween the laughter.

Rhonda and I call this type of laughing “Lois laughter.”  A dear sweet saintly lady had passed away.  Rhonda and I were working-out and I distinctly remember being on the elliptical and learning of Lois’ entry into Heaven…and I could not stop laughing.  I mean, tears streaming down my face laughing.  It wasn’t funny that she passed away…I just could not stop laughing.  Now whenever we laugh like this, we call it “Lois Laughter.”  We know that up in Glory, Lois is smiling down on us and thinking, Those girls are too sweet.

Thursday…stress.  Angry phone calls.  Disgruntled individuals.  Busy – busy – busy typing and such.

Friday – Today was the frosting on the cake.  Frosting actually sounds pretty good right now which means that I am emotional and totally wanting to dive in to something sweet.  I won’t.  Well, I may…in a bit…as I am having coffee with the girls.  Today has been non-stop busy and hectic do – this and do – that and oooooh, did I sit on something for nearly 2 months and now you need to wrap it up in 45 minutes.  Thank you very much.  I know some people think I am Wonder Woman…I mean,  you’ve never seen us in the same room together so maybe I really am… I’ll never confess.  If I was Wonder Woman, shouldn’t I be allowed to date Clark Kent?  I mean – two super heroes hooking – up?  I think it’s a grand idea.

So there you have it…as the stress has decreased (Sunday) and then escalated throughout this week…my smile and laughter have increased.

Today someone asked me if I did something – something that I always, always, always do…and out of pure Angie-ness, I totally gave this person the teacher look (sans an eye roll because that would be Secretary Angie) and said somewhat sweetly, “Yes.  I did that at 8:25 this morning.”

And there you have it…my week thus far…my week & all its glory – laughter…smiles…and such.

And now it’s the weekend…who knows what kind of shenanigans I shall get myself in to???  Time will tell…

A true story

I have every intention of disrespecting Tuesday by reading way too late tonight.  The end.

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

It's going to be teeeeeeeeeeerrific!!!

Tomorrow from 8:30 'til 11:30, I get the privilege of attending an in-house telephone skills seminar.  Honestly the name of the seminar is something like, "Terrific Telephone Skills" or "Telephone Skills Terrifically Mastered."  All I remember is the word "terrific" is in the title.  Oh, yes, friends.  According to the before-the-seminar informational handout, I am going to learn - and I am totally serious, this was on the handout...it had it's own bullet - I am going to learn how to wake-up Monday morning and say, "Thank God, it's Monday!!!"  NO JOKE!  I couldn't even make that up if I tried.

Why in the world would I disrespect Friday?  Monday is the beginning of the week - and yes, I am thankful for life and my health and the blessings of each new day - but to put TGIM under a bullet (and it wasn't even a cute bullet...it was a dot.  A circular dottish bullet), what is this world coming too????

When I shared this with my favorite co-worker, he replied, "TGIT."  Nice.  I have a feeling he's going to use the Thank God, it's _______ as his email subject line for some time.  (Sigh.)

I, also, believe they are going to help us love our lives....and ourselves.

I read through the pamphlet at circa 2:45 and sat in my cubicle laughing for a good 20 minutes.  I, even, went so far as emailed the TGIM statement to my college roomie.  She replied, "LOL!  Thanks.  I needed a good laugh."  You're welcome.  :)  That's what friends are for, thank you Dion Warrick and gang.

If I were REALLY homeless...

Earlier this week, I had a flat tire and needed to employee the help of my co-workers.  While milling around in my trunk for the spare, one of them observed and then stated loudly, "Good grief, Angie Good!  What's with all this stuff?  Are you homeless?"

Before I go any further,
I want to list the items in my trunk...

an afghan
(this was in case my car breaks down in the winter)

a crate with necessary car items:  Jumper cables, oil, de-icer, etc.

1 sage green fleece blanket
(which is my PICNIC blanket!)

1 pair of cranberry high heels
(that need to have the bottom of the heel replaced)

1 pair of emergency flip-flops
(for the last minute, wanna-grab-a-pedicure? days)

1 book (this is in my trunk because one time I broke-down
in the winter and had to wait & wait for a tow truck.
During the 60 minute wait, I thought to
myself, I wish I had a book! and then I placed one in my trunk.)

I hardly think this list qualifies me as being homeless.  Goodness.  If I was really homeless, I would have...

a mini-fridge filled with snacks

a case of bottled water - HY-DRATION!

an air mattress ~ I hate camping.  I hate sleeping on the ground.

a fluffy pillow

an expandable lawn chair for afternoons of sitting in the sun and reading

a straw hat to protect my head while I sit in said lawn chair

sunscreen

a box of yarn and knitting needles ~ I would get bored being homeless without crafting.

an inflatable pool ~ cleanliness and Godliness...hand-in-hand :)

Funny email subject line

I downloaded a free Nook book called Ready or Not

When I opened my email, I had a new message in my box.  The subject line read:  Ready or Not is ready for downloading!"  Soooo is it really ready OR NOT!!!!!?????

:)

The neighbor boys are playing in my yard. They have a friend over. I'm going to guess - the friend is 5ish.

The friend and eldest neighbor boy come and peer in my screen door. I say, "Hello!"

 The friend: "Who's that?"

Neighbor boy: "Her name is Angie."

The friend: "Is she your aunt?"

 Neighbor boy: "No."

 The friend: "Your friend?"

 Neighbor boy: "No."

 The friend: "Your GIRLfriend?"

 LOL!!!

A weekend with my brother...

I love that my brother was willing to make the 280 mile journey to spend the weekend in Rockford, Illinois with me.  First of all - I love my brother.  Second - whenever we get together, there is gobs and gobs of laughter.  Not just normal laughter but the kind of laughter that hurts your sides and stomach.

My place of employment provides me with a holiday day on Good Friday.  I began my Easter weekend with coffee at Meg's with Trudy and her dear mother.  It was 2.5 precious hours with two Godly ladies who were such an encouragement and quasi-therapists.  We parted ways with a promise to get together again SOON.

The spring weather was another wonderful blessing on Friday.  The sun was shining and the temperature was delightful. (By delightful, I do mean around 50-ish.)

A denim skirt, purple top, brown flats, and a floral scarf made up my scampering-about outfit.

After departing Meg's, I phoned my crafty friend Nancy and informed her that her chariot was on its way.

From Nancy's, we made our way to Randall Road.  First stop - JoAnn Fabrics, where I purchased brown (with a faint background pattern) fabric to make skirt "F" on my pattern and I, also, purchased fabric to make a skirt for my friend Leah.

The trouble with JoAnn's on Randall Road is it's twice the size of our JoAnn's in Rockford...therefore, there are a gazillion more bolts of fabric...AND they have Starbella Yarn at Randall Road.  I was telling Nancy that I have emailed JoAnn's about carrying Starbella in their store...apparently I need to be a more specific, "Please carry Starbella in your East State Street store in Rockford, Illinois!"  All my emails must've been interpreted as "carry Starbella in all the other stores!"

After finding Leah-ish fabric and my 5 for $5 Simplicity patterns, I made my way to the check-out where I found my friend perusing craft books.  She was comfortably perched on a step ladder.  Had I not been finished shopping, I believe she would've spent the better part of the day reading about different crafting techniques.  This is one of my favorite things about Nancy -- she loves crafts and not just one particular type of craft.  She paints silk, stamps cards, alters art, etc.  Her brain is over-flowing with creative juices. Whenever my juices are squelched, I call her and we discuss the subject and she always has some craft epiphany to help me out of the depths of my crafting dilemma.

Fabric and patterns purchased.  We, then, made our way to Caribou Coffee.  Funny story -- you know that I love coffee, right?  If not -- HELLO!!!  DON'T YOU KNOW ME AT ALL????  Anyway...I heart coffee.  Well, on our way to JoAnn's because I was sooooooo (or could it be "SEW"!!!!!) excited about getting more fabric to make a skirt for my friend, I, Angela Good, drove past Caribou Coffee without so much as a tap-tap-tap of the brake pedal.  (GASP!)  Tragical, I know.  I mean - for realzies - can you even believe that you are reading this on MY blog????  I will give you a minute to recover.

(Humming the Double Jeopardy theme.)

Ok.  Time's up.

We went back the 2.5 or 3 miles to Caribou Coffee where I purchased a gluten-free (said "gluten-free" kind-of SING-SONGY...because I was delighted!!!) iced dark chocolate mocha, hold the whip cream.  Now -----> before you remember that I had already been to Meg's that morning and now here I was at Caribou getting cracked-out on coffee again...at Meg's, I had a decaf white green tea.  I have limits.  And as far as coffee goes, I pretty much know my limits.  Soooo the Caribou gals made my iced coffee with half the caff.  Nancy wanted me to go full-caff because she was on a sugar high from a scone.  :)

Iced mocha in hand, I steered Rosie back down Randall Road (from whence we came) and pulled in to find 2 things......front row parking at Archiver's and (drumroll please...) A BRAND NEW HALF PRICE BOOKSTORE TWO STOREFRONTS DOWN FROM ARCHIVER'S!!!!!!!!  The sign on the new bookstore said, "Opening April 25th" too which I told my passenger, "Awwwww...LOOK!  THEY ARE GOING TO BE OPEN FOR MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!"

Have you ever been to Half Price Books?  Truly, their prices are half-price if not 3/4 of the price...but I think the sign would be weird and lengthy if it read, "1/2 and 3/4 priced books."  Their marketing department might not like my fabulous idea...thus another reason why I am not designing store logos.  Plus you read my blog, you know what I am potentially capable of.

Do you know that I've missed you?  Seriously.  I've missed blogging in this random-Angie-ish sort of way.  I don't know what has been "off" about me for the past couple of months, but sitting here tonight, I'm thoroughly loving pounding out the keys and putting down my random favorite weekend moments.

Where was I?  Archiver's.  We perused the crafting supplies.  I went and meandered through their journal stuff...gathering ideas...hoping my journaling creative juices would surface.  The trouble is -- now that I am officially sewing (like a crazy person!), I want to take time and work on my sewing journal.  I'm leaning toward the title:  "My Sew-Called Life."  It's not my own title.  I Googled sewing journals and found that title.

Not wanting to buy a bunch of crafting supplies, I picked up a small pad of sewing related things to add to my soon-to-be-made sewing journal.

It should be noted - for the first time ever (EVER!) - Nancy left Archiver's without a single purchase.  I was amazed and rendered speechless.  When I say "speechless" - I mean, I was speechless from the time it took me to walk from the store to Rosie.  Remember - we had front row parking.  :)

Trader Joe's grocery store was our third and final stop.  (I kinda feel like a flight attendant.  "Please buckle your seatbelts and return your tray to the upright position.  We are quickly approaching Trader Joe's.")

Trader Joe's was the main reason for our trip to Algonquin.  Hahahahahahaha!  Who am I kidding?  The main reason was to visit the HUGE JoAnn's store.  Silly me.  :)

My purchases at T.J.'s included various gf snacks and my brother's favorite snacks -- cashews, dark chocolate-covered almonds, TJ's honey Greek yogurt, and some gf oatmeal.

With groceries and sewing supplies, we headed home, arriving back in town at 7 p.m.  The sun was still shining - although it was beginning to set.  The air was still warm with a hint o'spring.  We were still chatting and laughing.

After dropping Nancy off at her house, I arrived at the cottage and threw the newly purchased fabric in the washer.  I made some dinner and enjoyed some light reading.  I received word from Bryan that he had left later than he originally intended, so I decided to work on Leah's skirt.  This reminds me -- Nancy wins the Quote of the Day.  "You are making skirts that are going to be seen across the ocean!!! You are going to be famous!!!"  :)  Leah later told me, "You are going to be an international sensation!"

Not having Leah here to try on the skirt made me more cautious.  I read and re-read the pattern sizes.  Upon determining what size I would need to cut, I ironed the fabric and then re-read the pattern.  I must've read the back of the pattern atleast 6 times.  I compared the numbers and everytime, I came up with the one particular size.  I pinned the pattern and then did my 7th check of the back.  And then I cut the fabric.  I held up each piece and attempted to picture in my head how the skirt would look once stitched together.  Of course, it was going to look fabulous...but would it be the right size?

After threading my machine and popping in chick flick DVD which I have watched a gazillion times, I began sewing.  I read and re-read each sections directions to make sure I would not need to take a stitch ripper to this lovely skirt.

A couple hours later, I held up the finished skirt.  I took the tape measure and re-measured the circumference of the waist and then I measured the length. The waist was a smidge smaller than the number Leah sent me.  I decided not to freak out and I threw the skirt in the washer.  Worst case scenario:  I would need to make another skirt for Leah and post on Facebook that I have a skirt with such-and-such measurements.  Who wants it?

Well...it turns out that the size I made will work.  A couple of texts back and forth with Leah confirmed this and made my heart soo happy.  I do intend to get some more fabric and make her a skirt with an extra inch in the waistband so she can wear it, as the pattern states:  "One inch below waist."  I'm dreaming of a day when A-line skirt patterns will read, "Sits at waist."  Although -- as I type this and think about my monstrous pile o'spring and summer skirts, many of my skirts sit an inch below my waist.  Hmmmmm...

By the time I finished Leah's skirt and got the other brown material pressed & the pattern cut-out, Bryan arrived.  Due to the fact that the clock read circa 1 a.m. (and well, I'm not -- nor is my brother -- a night owl, we went to bed!!!)

Saturday morning, Magsters woke-us-up bright and early.  No worries, she got over her feline-self and went back to sleep when she heard her name spoken in an angry tone.

9ish, we arose from our slumber and prepared for a fun Saturday!!!

First stop -- JoAnn's.  I know, I know...AGAIN!!!  Actually -- what happened is -- Bry asked me to make him some flannel jammie pants.  He wants me to sew him something delightful.   Soo far, I'm really good at skirts...however this won't work for my brother.  I made him sit down and thumb through the Simplicity catalog to find a pattern he liked.  He did.  We bought it.  We didn't have a coupon for the material so we decided to wait to purchase it.  Our time in JoAnn's reminded us of our childhood...except instead of mom holding a tape measure to get our measurements, I was holding a pink tape measure trying to get Bry's jotted down.

After JoAnn's, we went to Barnes and Nobles to spend my VD gift card.  Bry perused the "boy" books and magazines and I found the Sew What? Bags I saw on line.

Since we were already at B&N and I had a free cup of tea from Teavana, we made our way up the escalator to the top level...all the while, reminding each other why we don't appreciate the mall on the weekends. The place was swarming with teenagers.  Now -- before you think I am anti-people, I'm not.  It's just that now that I am older, I appreciate not going to the mall on the weekends.  Plus it was Easter weekend and people were trying to bring their fru-fru dressed children to see the white bunny.

Teavana tea is fabulous!!!  We had strawberry mixed with something else.  The price is a little steep for a cup of hot tea...but we did get one of the cups for free AND I got to see a former student's big sister.

From hot tea to RED MANGO!!!!!!  Bryan loves Red Mango...and what kind of sister would I be if I did not treat him to one of his favorite Rockford treats.  We put our hot tea in Rosie in the cup holders and hiked over to Red Mango where we filled our small bowls with peanut butter (in mine I added dark chocolate;  Bry added the original plain).  We enjoyed our chilly snack and Bryan said, "Sis, we are going to freeze outside!!!"  I reminded him our hot tea reward if we made it to Rosie.  The tea was enough of an encouragement for our outdoor-kind-of-chilly hike to the car.

With hot tea in hand and sugar in our bloodstream, we headed to the Rescue Mission thrift store on Harrison.  I hope you are sitting down -- after perusing the thrift store for about 45 minutes, we left without a single purchase.  For real!!!!  I don't joke around about 3 things:  coffee, the thrift, and good books.

At this point in our day - it was approximately circa 2 p.m.  We were on a sugar-high and hungry for real food.  (Confession:  Bry and I are kind of foodies...as in, we function best, like the animals at the zoo, when you feed us on schedule. LOL!)  We headed to the cottage for my faux Chipotle recipe.

After a filling lunch, Bry worked on my printer.  It was his neighbor's printer and she had issues with the blank ink not working.  After several attempts to fix it and after reading message boards, Bry declared the printer deceased.  I've not had a printer since my college days so this doesn't really break my heart.  It was a nice thought, having a printer...but it's ok.  I will recycle this printer when Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has their electronics drive in May or maybe it's June.  I can't remember.

While he worked on the printer, I got permission (from him) to work on sewing skirt "F" from my New Look pattern.  After getting the whole thing put together, I realized that I don't like skirt "F."  It's too full.  It reminds me of something you would see on Little House on the Prairie and I don't mean that in a good way...I mean that in a oh-dear-Angie-Good-is-wearing-THAT (add a slow shaking of the head!).  Not wanting to give up on my LHOTP skirt, I decided to chop off about an inch at the hem.  I re-ironed the hem under and then re-stitched it.  Once hemmed, I left it draped over the kitchen chair while Bryan and I ran to Target to get Easter Skittles for my Sunday School kiddos.

Target was kind of busy as many people were grabbing those last minute basket stuffers.  We found a couple bags of Skittles and some cute chick baggies and vacated the store.  We paid for the Easter candy.  We didnt' just vacated without paying.

Arriving back at the cottage, Bryan said he would like to watch You've Got Mail. I do not need to be told twice when it comes to this delightfully charming movie.  I popped in the DVD and opened a Noosa Honey yogurt - which I split with Bry - and we watched about 45 minutes of the movie.  I noticed Bryan sound asleep on the loveseat.  Since we didn't sleep our normal pattern the night before, we opted to go to bed early Saturday night.

Sunday morning - poached eggs on toast and half a Greek yogurt.  We were up with plenty o'time to lollygag around before having to be at church early for a quick choir-run-thru.  The choir special had several "Hoe-zahhhh-ha-na"'s which Bry was blessed with hearing while getting ready for church.  :)  I'm the kind of sister that shares.

Resurrection Sunday -- I love sharing the Easter story with my Sunday school kids.  My favorite part (and I do love the WHOLE story) is when the women come to the tomb and the angel tells them (Angie-paraphrase), "He is not here!!!  He is risen!!!"

After church, we ate Chipotle leftovers and Bry got on the road.  He did take his fabulous sister's advice and stop at Red Mango for a berry smoothie sans sweetener on his way out of town.  He said it was the bestest!!!  Add smoothies to my list of things that I don't joke about.  :)

5 hours later, he was home in Hudson.  After church, I received a text that he was cleaning his apartment and doing laundry.  What a guy!!!  Drove home from Rockford and then began tidying up the mancave.

I love my brother.  I love that we can look at one another and pretty-much know what the other person is thinking.  I love that we can laugh about memories.  We were laughing about the amount of Little Debbie Nutty Bars we consumed as children.  Good times.

What a wonderful weekend...began with friends and crafting...and then my brother's visit...and Pastor's amazing Resurrection Sunday message.  I'm blessed.  My cup runneth over...

This is what tickled my funny bone today...

As I walking from my desk to the file room, I kept saying "I lost my khakis" and laughing...  I know the sweetest Rhode Islander, my dear friend Kelly's grandma.  I had the privilege of getting to know her when I went to Alaska for Kelly's wedding and then the following Thanksgiving when I went with her grandson and my friend Mandy to Rhode Island for a long weekend.

While we were in Alaska, Grammie said, "Throw the pastor in the pot!"  It took me several seconds to realize we were not going to cannibalize the preacher...instead we were going to enjoy pasta.

It's been awhile.

While I was in The JoAnn Fabrics store this afternoon purchasing pre-punched paper for my 2024 garden journal, I said to myself, "Self,...
